Canadian large cents help

Sometime before Elvis assumed room temperature, I received some foreign coins that my mother put away for me. Now after I can't remember how many moves, a fire and a flood. My coins were found 1.7 miles down the Missouri River still packed together inside the closet of my mom's house (Did you know mobile homes float!) anyway, after a move to the top of a mountain and a few years later I found them again and I need your help.

I have two 1859 Canadian large cents. One of them seems to have something under the 9. Am I seeing things or is this something?

My 1st post, hope this works.
Thank you

The Canadian experts must not be on yet -- but they will be later, I'll bet.

I compared your picture to the one in the Charlton Catalogue. It looks like it is a 1959 Double punched narrow 9 #2. Charlton values it at 35 dollars in
    G-4 and 120 in VF-20. Mark

  • Krause lists 'double punched narrow 9' Type I and Type II varieties, the first being worth about $100 and up and the second about $20 and up. I'm not sure what the difference between the types is though. There's also the regular 1859 and a wide 9 (no double puch) variety.

    Coin is an 1859 D-P N9#2

If you are interested in selling it LMK. I need this one for my Large Cent collection.

the CCRS site is very useful for Canadian coins, if the pics and descriptions don't help you out then post a message in the discussion forum. There are a few resident 1859 variety experts that would love to help.
