Crossover and Regrades from PCGS...

mrcommemmrcommem Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭✭✭
Received some crossover and regrades on Thursday.

The Crossovers:
1 1851-O 3CS USA DNC
2 1835 1/2 C USA MS64BN
3 1857-O H10C USA DNC
4 1851-C G$1 USA AU58

The Regrades:
1 1938-D 50C USA MS64
2 1903 G$1 Jefferson USA MS64
3 Gettysburg 50C USA MS64
4 Antietam 50C USA MS66
5 Grant 50C USA MS64
6 Monroe 50C USA MS64
7 Oregon 50C 1933-D USA MS65
8 1917-D 25C Type 1 USA MS63FH
9 1838 10C Large Stars USA MS64
10Smithson. S$1 1996-D USA M/G

I am somewhat pleased with the results. Two out four crossed from NGC to PCGS, but there is a problem with the 1835 half cent. This was not to cross at less than MS65 as stated on the submission sheet. PCGS has made a big error here. I called them to let them know what happened and they said they would call me back. I don't see that they have any choice but to put the coin in an MS65 holder. The Charlotte 1851 coin that crossed I am pleased. It is a choice coin and should have had no problem. The other two coins I guess weren't good enough by their standards.

On the regrades I only go two to cross out of 9. Some of them were long shots and were in old fat holders. The Antietam went for 65 to 66 and the 1903 Jefferson Gold Dollar from 63 to 64. A nice result for both of these gems!! image The Smithsonian is another problem. I sent this coin as an MS70. It was just a stunning coin when graded, but had developed fingerprints on the edges. Not MS70 anymore image I have not heard from them on what they will do about it.

Overall, depending on how they resolve the problems the submissions could be financially benificial. We shall see.

Nice results! Perhaps NCS could remove those fingerprints? Ask PCGS to pay for it and re-holder.

I don't think PCGS HAS to put the 1835 in an MS65 holder. What they might do is refund you the cost difference between a 64 and a 65. But, if the coin did not merit an MS65, then they should not holder it as such. Should they refund you the cost difference, then just send it back to NGC and maybe it will get the 65 again. If it does, then send it back to PCGS in hopes of a 65.

"I don't see that they have any choice but to put the coin in an MS65 holder."

NO WAY SHOULD THIS COIN BE PUT IN A 65 HOLDER! PCGS may have misread the invoice, but if the coin doesn't merit gem status then it doesn't deserve to be labeled as such.

A refund of the price difference between a 64 and a 65, plus a free submission due to the error is, however, in order.

I had to call PCGS again today (friday) to find out what I need to do with this 1835 half cent. They didn't know, and when they did call back I still don't understand what they are going to do. They told me to send back the 1835 half cent and a copy of the original submission sheet. No surprise there. They also want me to send in the 1857-O half dime that the DNC'd from the same submission. The person I talked to couldn't tell me what they were going to do. She was just taking instructions from some else. I am really confused now!! Anyone have these problems with this outfit?

Concerning the 1835 half cent, you need to be proactive and suggest a solution to PCGS. Maybe you could suggest to them that they either they grade it MS65 or they pay to have it regraded by NGC.

As far as the 1835 1/2, if indeed it was marked on the submission as 65 min. grade, and it doesn't meet the 65 standard, the following link may answer the what now question:Crossover Oops

    Still waiting......

PCGS received the 1835 half cent and the 1857-o half dime on Nov. 12. I e-mailed them to find out what they intended to do and to try to speed them along. No answer, of course. I still have heard no news about the Smithsonian Dollar that was submitted. I don't think I should have to wait another month because of their screwup. I will let the forum know when I get some info. PCGS is really started to dissapoint me.

E-mails usually don't get much attention calling them is best.
    Goodluck.
