Liz II's new (old) portrait

I received a set of the 1953 Special Coronation coins a couple days ago. They are nice coins, but I'm a bit disappointed with the subtle changes from the original 1953 design. Is this one closer to what she really looked like at the time and the original design was more forgiving?

I also received rolls of the new effigy coins big pic and will give away a couple sets of the 1 cent through 25 cent. Let me know if you want to be in the drawing and I'll pick the winners in a few days.

Oh, and does anyone know if there are plans for any circulation strike 50 cents for this year?

I have heard that the 50 cent piece is not a circulating coin - this info came from a bank in British Columbia this summer - I don't have any more info than that.

I seriously doubt it. No one uses them and the ones made in 2002 were pure novelty to whoever picked one up at a post office.

P.S. So is it just the 1-cent coins that come in both "P" and "No-P" this year in the new effigy?

Lots of varieties in 2003. There's the previous effigy with P's and No P's (I think) on the 1¢ and then there's the new effigy but there's also the mint set coins with the WP mintmark.

Please enter my name. Thanks for the chance. image The original QEII first bust was by Mary Gillick. The one above is probably an interpretation based on the original Gillick design.

I believe the RCM announced in March that they weren't doing circ. strikes 50c this year. But then again...

I'm yet to see a new effigy 25c.
