I received my first Collector's Club submission back today. It had been mailed to PCGS on Sept. 30 and was recorded as received on Oct.7.
Results:
1995-W Civil War $5 PR69DCAM
1996-W Smithsonian $5 MS69
2000-W Library of Congress $10 PR69DCAM
2003-W First Flight $10 PR69DCAM
I'm happy. All of the coins go into my collection but if I ever choose to sell them they should have excellent marketability. I probably took a chance by buying these coins raw as a "68" would have been a disaster. (Think about that for a minute.) With the exception of new issues from the mint I will probably stick to coins that are already slabbed from this point on.

All glory is fleeting.

Wish I'd been a lucky on my first submission.
Until I can accurately judge a coin's grade,
I'll stick to slabbed coins.

There is a great (IMHO) letter to the editor "Not the solution" in the Nov 10 Coin World that would be a great response to your perceived disaster, regarding modern proofs specifically, but apropos to any modern "registry quality" graded coins and their pricing.

I learned that the hard way!
