PCI...

My father sent some coins (Morgans) to PCI to try them out. He is a tough grader & the coins came back for the most part what he graded only couple out of about 40 came back higher. (He noted PCGS usually grades at or higher than his grades & almost never grades lower). PCI results are similar to what PCGS would grade. Couple coins were cleaned & PCI noted as such. Both of us were suprised but pleased with results. Now if could only sell them...try them on ebay with money back guarentee!!!

There's the mistake. PCI coins net MUCH less than PCGS coins... if they're nice coins, just send them to PCGS, NGC, or ANACS if you want them to get any respect when being sold... the other services are, IMO, a waste of your money.

  • I agree with airplanenut.
These sort of experiments are too expensive to try out.
If the Morgans are as nice as it sounds, you need them to be in a PCGS holder to get the HIGHEST price for them.
    That is just reality.
People always complain about it but it doesn't matter. It is reality.
    Good luck!
  • I agree with Mintluster and Jeremy, but what that means is that the coins don't matter anymore, all that matters is the plastic. A coin can be a great coin, but if it is the "wrong" plastic or if it is raw it is worth less than a mediocre coin in the "right" plastic. I'm not the only collector of plastic out there, but at least I'm honest about it.

PCI ain't a half bad outfit to me they are pretty right on with there grades and you don't have to sell a coin to afford to have coins slabbed.

Marketability is becoming increasingly important in today's coin market. From my own actual experience in attempting to sell PCI coins their current marketability is poor. The same goes for SEGS and ICG. It doesn't matter if the coin is correctly graded. These days the plastic is what's important. PCGS coins have the best marketability. NGC and ANACS coins have good marketability but not as good as PCGS.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • PCI sucks !!! I had a PCI MS65 early commem that was submitted to PCGS and came back bodybagged for being cleaned. image

I have pcgs coins if broken out of the slab and resubmitted that would come back bodybagged for being cleaned.
