The love of Napoleon's life...

Was Josephine of course. He was enamoured with many women, including his second wife.
But it was Josephine's name on his lips when he died.

There weren't that many pieces produced with Josephine as subject though.
This one dates from 1806 and is a repoussé, which poorly translated means "pushed-back" (Laurent?)

It's uniface, made of tin or pewter and as you see was gilded.
The back side is a "negative" of the front and it's very fragile.

This is a medal, no? I've just gotten into the medals and it looks kinda familiar. It also looks fantastic!

It is indeed a medal, not a coin. "Repouseé" is a way to give three-dimensional depth to metal by hammering its surface from the other side. As such, these repouseé medals are always uniface. They were often used for decorations on furniture, wainscoting, etc. Most likely this one is tin, which was more commonly used in France, while pewter was more common in German lands.
