ANY POLLACKS OUT THERE (REVISED)

SORRY, HIT THE INCORRECT BUTTON WHILE POSTING.

USUALLY I AM AT THE US COIN FORUM.

WHILE BORED ONE DAY I CHECKED E-BAY FOR POLISH COINS, (MY LAST NAME IS PILARCZYK) AND WAS SURPRISED TO FIND SOME SILVER COINS FROM THE 30'S.

I BID ON THEM AND EXPECT TO BE SUCCESFULL.

MY QUESTIONS ARE:

DOES ANYONE COLLECT THEM?

ARE THERE BOOKS ONTHE SUBJECT?

ARE THERE ANY GRADING SERVICES FOR THEM?

ARE THERE WEBSITES FOR THEM?

ARE THERE REPUTABLE DEALERS FOR THEM?

SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS BUT THIS IS MY FIRST FORAY INTO WHAT I BELIEVE IS REFERED AS THE ' "DARK SIDE"

MANY THANKS TO ALLWHO RESPOND

  • Welcome to the Forum.
Those '30's Polish silvers are attractive and hard to find in Uncirculated condition.
For pricing comparisons you can look at similar pieces on Ebay. You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
John Z and Jester have some experience in the Polish field but we're all willing to help.

Welcome, Baron!! image The answer to your questions are all "yes" but some of the more useful books, for example, are in Polish. Do you read Polish well?

Hi Baron! Welcome to the Darkside. I'm sure you'll be quite happy with your new collecting direction; Poland has had a wonderful history which includes some fantastic coins minted in the last 1000 years. The coins you refer to, as Askari says, are very hard to locate in uncirculated condition. Also, most reference materials, such as the "redbook", written by Parchimowicz, are in Polish. There are other materials but also available only in Polish. I'd recommend, as Tbirde suggests, a Standard....by Krause. And, there's a good volume by Kalkowski with a lot of illustrations--it's in Polish.

HistoryGeek, I wouldn't call myself any kind of expert, but thanks for the endorsement.

.....and remember that "East Prussia" was part of Poland long before the Germans got ahold of it. Besides, if you want to go border changing, I'm sure Poles would be more than happy to get back all they lost: Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, etc etc.
