Strange bidding on ebay auctions

I had bid on a 5 piece set of 2003 pr69dcams and the winning bid was over $100. I looked at the winnng bidder and it gets wierd. The only other bid he won was against the same bidder as the 2003 proofs. Here are the auction links. Also read his feedback.

  • That is weird. Strange how the guy paid fast then never paid at all.

It's a shill bid of a unusual variety that I've seen several times. The seller doesn't want to part with the item for the final bidding price and uses his alternate user id to snipe the auction. The alternate user id then has FB and the option of responding to it, which he has. Notice that the response to the positive FB by the shill bidder is sarcastic. You may ask yourself: "to what end?!"

The seller has now established a non-zero FB posting id (many would call it a trolling id). He can use this id in various ways - the scenarios get complicated, and are not necessarily nefarious. If he had wanted to establish a non-zero FB buying/selling id, he would NOT have responded with a sarcastic remark to his own positive feedback. He would have simply used every occasion to snipe a low-bidding auction for its FB potential, and created a mock "legit" id. A "mock legit" id is usually used for fradulent activities.

    We ARE watching you.
