2003-W NGC PR70 Eagle sent to PCGS comes back as...

I told a friend about the 2003-W NGC PR70 I found on Ebay today. He said he would one, and send it to PCGS for regrading. Do you think he'll get a PR70 back or will it become a PR69? Obviously, if they could all come back PCGS PR70, a great profit may be realized. What are the chances?

  • not a chance for a 70 cross from NGC, save your money
  • Another Lottery question! What is it now, 1 in 80,000,000?
You can fool man but you can't fool God! He knows why you do what you do!

He's right! They wouldn't let it happen. You must crack the coin out of it's NGC holder and submit, in order to have a chance of the coin going into a PCGS holder.
  • I think it has a chance of crossing. I checked the PCGS population report. Thus far, there are a whopping 134 2003-W PR70DCAMs! Compare that to only 26 in 2002-W PR70DCAM! So, it appears that there are many of these out there.

The ngc pop is A little over 2,000 with a total of 4,000 something graded. So 50% made 70 at ngc so far.
dollardude what is the total graded at pcgs?

NGC Pop reports shows 2300 in 70. 2700 in 69. Looks like 70s are almost as common as 69s across the street.

As a matter of policy, PCGS will not cross coins graded 70.

  • Placid, you may be right. PCGS' population report shows a total of 4526 graded, 134 of which are PR70DCAM and 4352 of which are PR69DCAM.

Russ is correct. There is no chance at all of a cross.
A crackout submission would have some small chance, but even then, save your money. Buy a quick pik!
  • Thanks for the advice folks.

  • You can crack it out and send it in raw and you have a tiny chance. The only way PCGS might accept it as a crossover would be as a "cross at any grade". Even then there is a good chance they wouldn't because of the chance that the submitter isn't going to take too kindly to their 70 coming back as a 68. It is a no win situation for PCGS so they won't do it.
