On the topic of images/pics

While we are talking a bit about posting images, how about a little poll - who has a favorite camera and/or image hosting service? Obviously, my foray last evening was only a partial success. I think it is a combination of many things, as noted on other posts...details,details,details, and practice, practice, practice! I do find that you justhave to put in the time experimenting, but is there a reliable hosting service that seems to be easy to use? I am at work right now, so I'll have to check back later for opinions & answers. Much obliged!! Chuck

As for favorite camera. I have a nikon Coolpix 5400. Just got it. It works well. Other camera work well too. Just make sure it has macro capabilities for coins. As for hosting I use PCGS for less than 50K images and I get 12 MB from my ISP for bigger stuff.

  • Thanks very much for the info...I don't think that my camera has a macro setting - if it does, I haven't found it! Also, I didn't know that PCGS hosted images...my ISP allows 50mb, which seems like plenty, but maybe by using PCGS I'll have less trouble with uploading.

I use an OLmpus C3000 and will be upgrading to the C5050 very soon. As for image hosting right here works fine for me.

  • Ken - was that Kennedy pic taken in daylight? If so, I'm gonna get the same kind of camera you have and practice, practice, practice!

  • Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P92 because it fits in your pocket and takes unlimited video up to the size of the memory stick. The other popular brands, i.e., Nikon, Canon, Fuji, etc., are better at just still macro photos due to the bigger lenses, but are more expensive, bulkier, and have limited video.

Let's see if I can show a sample...

Edited: The 1893-S is the correct one.

    Here is a better sample...

Edited: These were taken with 1 megapixel resolution to keep the file size down!

Check out a Vanguard Roth IRA.
  • Wow! Those are some pretty impressive photos! I've been using a sony dsc-p51, but it doesn't have a "macro" setting, which I guess is a larger lens option? I don't do any moving video, just interested in still pics and close-ups of coins. I think I'll stop by the local Ritz Camera and pick their brains, mention some of the models recommended here. Man, that's a nice photo of the WL - taken with a camera that fits in your pocket? Do you use a copy stand..I guess you have to for that degree of detail. Thanks!
