Home PCGS Set Registry Forum

I found an original 1953 Proof set.

It's slabbed by PCGS and I got it from Quarterjack (Dave) a very nice gentleman and fellow forum member. He bought the original set
and sent it in to be slabbed. The slabs are consectutively numbered. I entered it into the registry yesterday.

Very nice, but once they're slabbed it's no longer an original set.

    Mark,

Congrats on a nice set. Even if it's not in the original packaging, I'd still consider it to be an original set

You may be old (according to some of the young whippersnappers here image), but at least they made proof sets in your birth year. I know there are a lot of us who wish we were as young.

I have a 1953 set in its original envelopes and box, but want to leave it intact. The coins are nice - the cellophane hasn't been cracked or torn and, after 50 years, the staple hasn't caused any discoloration to the coins, but none has even a hint of a CAM, which I prefer. However, I just returned from a coin show today where I bought a '53 half, PCGS65CAM. I have all of the other '53 proofs in PCGS holders, except for the dime, so I'm going to register that set and the 4 1954 proofs that I have). Now I'll have an incentive to fill in the gaps.
