Evasion Coinage - Hispanniola Halfpenny

Undated Hispanniola "Evasion" Halfpenny (Atkins 444). Apparently rare, especially in the condition shown here. For some reason categorized as Evasion coinage. I've yet to here a good explanation for the existence of this coin.

That's a very neat and intriguing coin! I don't know who the obverse is trying to depict. Isn't Britannia holding a globe/world?

Gosh, I really didn't know there was a series. These medals came through in an auction lot.... Nice though. The Drake one has a silver hallmark on the rim.

Do you know anything about them...?

Not really ... I've picked up a couple because of the attractive sailing ships on them, the most recent being Scottish Maid, a progenitor of the clipper ships.
