Gov't auctions typically attract bidders who think they are getting a treasure for peanuts.
This is the psyche that governs these types of auctions. These are newbies , not shills.

For some stupid reason, those auctions by the state of PA always bring STUPID money!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • I wonder where they get all of their "unclaimed" property. They always have a steady supply.

    would be

recovered stolen property, found property, or evidence.

in all of those instances there would be time frames that PA must hold the items to allow for rightfull owners to claim.
  • I think I'm going to open my own state if people are paying this kind of money....

I saw the auction for the proof set about 15 mins before it ended. I spent the next five minutes looking for whatever it was that I was missing.
"What are you putting that tape on your nose for?"
    "Exactly."

Also, I agree with Brian. I spent just a few minutes looking at about 15 to 20 recent auctions of theirs, and didn't see any patterns, and in some cases it was the more seasoned users driving up the price. A post here at a date to be determined later: "Yeah, I remember when I paid $60 bucks for a '64 proof set, just the price you gotta pay when you're a newbie."

If you look at their past auctions it sure seems that they attract an inordinate number of zero feedback bidders competing against each other for the material and always driving up the prices far beyond anything reasonable.

I think you have a lot of nerve to charge $7.00 shipping and handling. Where does that come from?

We did a thread on this earlier this year. That 1839-O $2.50 really brought stupid money, especially for a raw, expensive, sight-unseen coin.

I wonder if I can send my coins to them, and have them run the auctions!

  • I wonder if I can send my coins to them, and have them run the auctions! ...He he heh!!!! That could be arranged. First, you need to move to Pennsylvania. I have a spare fully furnished room. Then, you would need to be deceased. That would also be no problem!!!!! imageimageimageimage....Ken
