Sometimes I'm glad I got outbid.

Check out the shipping charge. I placed my bid before checking and was shocked. I know it's still only 29.00 and some change for what appears to be a very nice 54S, but 7.00 to ship?! Please

shipping is the one thing I always check prior to any bid. If it's not listed or is exhorbant, I move on.

I think the coin went cheap. After shipping it would have net you $29.50. That's pretty cheap for a 54-S PCGS in 66. If it was any other grading service I'd agree it was better to move on.

Inflated shipping charges are becoming common on eBay. They can backfire on the seller by driving away bidders. Always consider the total outlay when bidding.

I don't know about you, but that coin looks pretty nice. $7 is ridiculous, but it may have been worth it.

I live in Florida. I thought Florida Law says not to collect sales tax on coins. I never paid sales tax when buying here in Florida.

Maybe the law changed. ANyone know?

When I sell coins less than 300.00, I charge 3.00 shipping an ship either Ceritifed or Insured. Runs about 3.15

Coins valued at 300.00 to about 1500.00 I charge 7.50 and ship registered (runs about 8.75-12.50)

Over 1500.00 send registered and charge 12.50 ( Sometimes the Registered charge is close to 17.00 to 18.00 on 5k and over stuff but I cover the difference, I figure if someone is buying a coin from me at that price, then I can at least cover the extra postage.)

Shipping costs me $6.35 priority and insured. I don't figure in the price of the padded envelope, that's just the cost of doing business.

I have noticed alot of sellers on eBay selling stuff at cost and making their profit on shipping. For example, there is a seller who deals in remanufactured computers from a major company that shall remain nameless. Suffice it to say that the company is the gateway most people take to their first foray into the computer world. Anyway, this guy buys the remans and sells them on eBay and gets about cost for them. THEN he tacks on $200.00 for shipping! It's happening alot nowadays.

I had e-mailed a seller of USB memory thingies and questioned his $12.50 shipping charge. He replied that he is selling these at cost so he makes it up on the shipping charges. Thing is, after you add on the shipping I could have gone down the street and paid less and gotten it right away. Well, at least he was up front in his reply.

    Just my two-cents (U.S.)

    Cheers,

    Bob

shipping is cheap what you're paying for is handleing which means auction fees, time, gas to the postoffice, and a coke on the way home from the postoffice. what I like is the $7.00 s/h charges and they come in a #10 envelope with a 37 cent stamp. I wonder why ebay seller think the buyer think they suck.

I agree it's a nice coin, and even with the shipping charge, it was a "good price", however, I know what it costs me to ship these things, and it's not even close to 7.00.

It's against ebay rules to recover fees with excessive shipping rates. And I guess if it's really that much of a burdon to take the time to go to the post office with the items that you're selling that you have to add fees for that, maybe you're in the wrong business. Just my opinion of course.

I do not understand why the shipping is problem to buy a coin.
If I like the coin and I would like to pay $30 max . It does not matter for me
if the final bid was $25 and shipping was $5 or final bid was $20 and shipping was $10
I always say that I have bought a coin for $30.00
    This is just my opinion.
  • Rampage,

Last line of the description says no sales tax on US coins.
