Rotated Flying Eagle

I recently purchased an 1858 Flying Eagle Small Letter Variety. After placing it in my collection, I noticed the the reverse was rotated. Instead of the top of the reverse pointing to 6 o'clock, it points to 4 o'clock. I was unaware that this existed with this type of coin. Can anyone offer any information on this? Did I luck out and unknowingly buy a more valuable coin than I had realized?

It adds some interest to the coin but not value, unfortunately. Quite a number of FE and IHC cents show similar features - not sure why they weren't able to line them up properly at times.

The 1858 FE is well known with rotated dies but you need at least 90° to really add any value. From your description it sounds like your piece is rotated about 40°-45°ccw which rarely adds value to any coin regardless of date or denomination.

As a matter of fact, many 19th-century issues have rotated dies. It adds less of a premium to a coin than 20th-century rotations, as the minting technology in the 20th-century improved vastly, and fewer of these errors exist.

OK, Thanks for the feedback. I'll just enjoy it for what it is. If I wind up with an 1856 with a rotated dye, Illl let you all know. For that matter, if I wind up with an 1856 without the rotation, I'll still let you all know, LOL.
