Would it count if I said I am, but not very good at it?

I always get a chubby out of finding cool stuff like that, it just doesn't happen all that often.

The best two cherries I pciked were: 1) 1951-D DDO Cent and 2) 1956-D RPM8 Cent

I do, but it's not the focus of my collecting. I have the cherrypickers guide volume 1, and occasionally sift through some coins, but most of my cherrypicks have been in large cents. Recently found a 1810/9.

    We ARE watching you.

Cherrypicking die varieties and buying rolls are the only two reasons I go to shows.

My best finds would have to include a 1942S RPM#1/DDO#1 in GEM BU from a show for $12. Value around $250. I also picked up a 1911D/S OMM#1 cent and a 1909P VDB DDO#1 cent, both in VF from the same table on the same day.

I don't have any recent finds to speak of other than half a dozen copies of a 1958D/D/D/D/D cent, one of which recently brought $130 on eBay, seller John Wexler. I bought the roll for $2.50 about five years ago and just went through it recently. Calculations bring the value of that roll to around $500 being somewhat conservative.

  • I collect Doubled dies both Jefferson and Liincoln series. My latest find was a brand new 1938 Jefferson DDO variety - WDDO-010. I have about 6 of them.

I absolutely love it! Most recent pick ups were a 1923 Peace Dollar 'Extra Hair' (its a die break) that was sitting in an unattributed PCGS MS64 slab at a regional show in Orlando. Paid full greysheet $34 for the coin, its worth a couple hundred. At the same show, found another 1923 'Whisker Jaw' (its another die break) Peace Dollar in an unattributed PCI MS65 holder. Even though I had to pay $80 for the darn thing (overgraded a point...clean fields but not enough luster for MS65), its worth maybe $150 properly graded.

  • I have found a couple 1956 type-1 proof halves, two 1970 ddr denver dimes and a 1963 ddo quarter. I was also able to attribute a bunch of things looking at my dads collection.

I've never found anything intentionally, but I have by accident.

Two months ago I bought a couple nice BU 1944 D&S quarters. I didn't scrutinize them because they were nice and shiny, looked good, and were cheap. A few days later, I was looking at my purchases and noticed that these two coins were both DDO!

Love to cherry, both condition-wise on undergraded slabbed and raw coins, and on RPMs, DDs, etc.

Some of my picks ... too many Jeff RPMS to list, particularly in war nicks. A BU unattributed 1954-S/D Jeff, some of the more scarce SMS DD halves, a couple of pre-designation early 1960s PCGS Jeffs that went PR-68 DCAM, a $7 ACG 1961 proof Jeff that went PR-69 CAM and, in perhaps my best pick, a pair of darn nice 1967 SMS nickel and half dollar. They cost about $19 combined and both went MS-66 DCAM at PCGS ... image Slightly off topic, I picked a No-P 1982 Roosie out of change and found a fine 1914-D Buff in a dealer's junk box for 25 cents.

I recently picked up three 1981 mint sets with an '81-P small motto quarter. This
is a common coin in circulation (about 4% of mintage), but is difficult to find unc and
is very scarce (~.6%) in mint sets. They were in a box of five.

  • In the past 3 years I have run across many interesting finds at my local coinshop and flea markets. More than I can count. Mostly Morgans.

Among them, 1894-S "Worm Eye," 1880/79 "Spikes," 1901 "Shifted Eagle." All nice premium coins.

But I think the 1972 Proof Set with the heavy clashed dime that I bought for $5 and sold for $173 was the most lucrative, percentage wise.

I haven't been looking for a few months but last time i was at a show with cherrypicking in mind i walked out of the show with 12 1970-S small date proof sets, 1939 d/d jefferson in AU, and a 1866/1866 shield nickel.

I haven't found much at coin shows but while searching collections for others, I have found some real nice coins. The best was probably a 1942/1 Mercury dime in VF condition. In this same collection I also found 5 1943/2 nickels, 4 1945 DDR nickels, 2 1942-D over Horz D nickels, 4 DDR 1946 Walking Liberty halves, a 1943-S DDO quarter to mention a few. These coins came from an old hoard that was started in the 40's. A few of these coins were given to me by the owners for my efforts and the rest are for sale or have already been sold.

I purchased a Lincoln cent roll set a couple years ago. Everything after 1939 was Red BU and before was circulated. I found a lot of RMP's in the BU cents. The best find in that lot was a 1922 no D that graded EF-40.

I have managed to find a couple Indian Head cents from dealers, an 1867/7 in fine and an 1869/9 in VG that were unnoticed by the dealer.

Some of my finds include. 1939 Jefferson 5 cent quadruple reverse doubling in ms64 5.5 steps which i bought for $3 at a coin show which i sold for $200. Bought another 1939 Jefferson off Ebay for $3 which was suppose to be MS64. It was an AU58 but turned out to be a double die reverse die#1. i sold it for $81. I bought an 1857 flying eagle for $16 of ebay which turned out to be a double die obverse which i sold for $89. I found a 1936 Lincoln ddo die#2 in fine from my first roll off ebay which i bought for $8. so the coin cost me .16 and i sold it for $32. I kept buying rolls of 1936 Lincolns and in my 15th roll I found my second Lincoln ddo in VF die#1. Sold it for $32. Also at a coin show I cherried a 1936 Lincoln DDO die#3 in AU for $3 sold it for $55.

My two best would be the 1928-D RPM#1 Lincoln in MS63RB bought at a bid board in Tucson AZ for $23 which I sold on Ebay for $700. I have also found a new RPM for a 1942-D Jefferson in about AU. It will be going to ANACS but I may keep this one as it is the discovery specimen. Also three weeks ago at the Grapevine Texas show I cherried another 1928-D RPM#1 Lincoln which maybe an MS64 Brown for $25. I t will be going to ANACS with the Jefferson. A few days agop received a 1939 Jefferson in About MS62 which maybe a new DDO.

I heard a great story at Long Beach. A dealer I know was on the floor buying and found a Flowing Hair Dollar in another dealers case. The coin was greatly discounted do to damage in the coins center. It just happened to be have a Silver Plug. image Now that's CherryPicking.

I guess nobody read my post from yesterday on this matter. My best was buying 4 supposedly broadstruck '73 Lincolns
for 20 bucks and finding out they were all struck from the same dies with a 'broken collar'. Appreciate it if someone would read that post and update me with
    any new info. 'preciate it.

Either I am very lucky or the 1894/94 Indian Cent is not that scarce. I have found about a dozen with very little effort.

They're pretty common in low grade, I've probably picked half a dozen or so myself. I just received one I bought on eBay, would be a nice VF except it was counterstamped front and back. Even at that, it's the earliest die state I've ever seen - I can see the point of the errant 4 *inside* the top of the primary 4. I'll try to pull a few pics and post them soon.

...oh, to answer the original question - obviously I'm a Cherrypicker too, though not so much over the last few years. I can't even begin to list the stuff I've found, but my best 'pick would be either the discovery specimens of the 1956-D/D RPM-018 (the second completely separated mintmark RPM for the date), and a Good 1922 Plain (Die #2) in a Whitman folder at an estate auction.

Picked up a raw 1934 Washington DDO from a local dealer's bid board. Paid $5.25 for it. It's now in a PCGS AU slab.
