New Washington Quarter after SQP?

Since I'm starting a Dansco album of Washington Quarters (1932-1998) (only my second project) I wanted to research a little on these coins. Much to my shagrin, an original and much better design for the Washington quarter obverse was denied in 1931 for the simple reason that it was designed by a woman. I have heard speculation that after the State Quarter Program there might be a redesign of this coin. What do you think of using the original Laura Gardin Fraser design for the Washington quarter after 2010? The design was used in a 1999 $5 gold commemorative coin, an example can be found at Ebay example. Take a look and voice your opinion.

Extra info can be found at Ed Reiter article.

  • It's a neat looking design, but there is too much detail for that to go on the current low-relief general strikes. My other complaint is that is still has a dead president on it and we should do away with the dead presidents on our coins!

The Fraser incident was terribly unfortunate, but I don't believe her design is any more inspired than the current one. (Is that Frank Gasparro?)

It's time for a change. The mint has hired a team of artists to redesign
the coinage so would seem to agree. There is no longer any widespread
opposition in government to change so perhaps this time it will really happen.

John Flanagan was the designer of the 1932 era Washington Quarter as struck then. I don't know who is responsible for the current spaghetti-haired mess; if they're smart, they won't admit to it.

And we'll just make that the quote of the day.
