Just wondering what the educational value is vs. entertainment. Have you learned anything this week from the forum?? If so, what??

Too much to point out in a single thread.

This place has really helped me with refining my collecting skills.

I need more, but I am miles ahead of where I was.
  • If you melted all of the double eagles minted they would form a cube having sides 2.9 to 3.0 feet. image
    Go well.
  • Too many to list - here is a few:

I've seen many examples of AT, I never realized how rampant it is.

I learned about GSA Morgans (thanks GSAGUY!).

That many collectors would spend $500 buying the same coin I would want.

The "Seller" side of ebay auctions (man, the idiots you have to sometimes deal with...)

That while my below MS grading skills have improved, my MS grading skills "still suck". image

I could go on and on - this forum is a great resource for newbies. Almost any question that I have had I was able to find using the search function, and I'm sure that if I coulndn't find it a quick post would result in many answers and advise. Thanks everyone!

All the great info and humor is what keeps me coming back. As for the past week, MadMarty's field trip to PCGS gave me many laughs.

Monks don't use them. Try a big stuffed Wile E. Coyote doll.

That I apparently know more about grading than I thought. I posted to a thread asking for opinions, gave mine and sat back and waited for the requisite member bashing. Not only did it not happen, but people agreed with me.image

  • I learned that PCGS is affiliated with the San Diego Zoo...

See "GOOD MORNING CLASS 'A field trip to PCGS!'" for details.image

  • Lincoln prices for pieces that have been off the market for many years are still out of control.
  • I have learned that there are great people on this board that will help you unselfishly and also that there are great dealers here who can be trusted to send you a nice coin for your money!

I learned that people still occasionally find REALLY old stuff like Seated coins in circulation, once in a blue moon...

Explore collections of lordmarcovan on CollecOnline, management, safe-keeping, sharing and valuation solution for art piece and collectibles.
  • Over the years I have learned so much that it would be hard to list. The biggest thing that I have learned is that I don't know nearly as much as I thought I did and that I will continue to learn as I put more time into reading the boards.
