The guy that bought the PCI arkansas had bid on the first one minutes before, but lost it. I guess he really wanted an Arkansas!
I don't know about the third one.
Arkansas halves must be HOT!!!!
I had to put in a pretty big snipe to win a certain bust half a while a go, and did it a little early (45 sec or something) and the other guy took one more shot at it, running me up another $20 but my bid held up. Sure enough, my underbidder was there a week later, bidding on the same date coin in another auction. he wanted it so bad he had put in about a dozen bids, so I knew I was safe throwing in a couple, and I made him pay $20 extra for HIS coin, and could have gone higher but didn't want to buy another example.
anyway, Looks like more than one person wants a 39D Arkansas at this moment, for some reason.

<< <i>if more than one person is looking for a specific coin, bidding can get out of hand. >>
The bidding is wayyyy out of hand....PCGS MS64 Arkansas (1939-D) can be purchased all day long for $200.-$225. This is a MS62 we are talking about at over 700$ and PCI MS64 and 65 coins which translate to MS60 - 63 at best!
Am I reading too much into this bidding or do these bidders have more money than sense???
a few days ago someone linked an auction for a tupperware container containing one of Britney Spears' prime farts, and it had lots of bids.
yes, some ebay bidders are crazy, depending on your point of view.
Now if they were selling one of Britney's Oktoberfest beer burps caught in a Fabrege egg,
i could understand a bid
I wouldn't mind one of those MS64 Arkansas, but I'll try to get it for $200-225.

<< <i>why are you so curious about these in particular, out of all the crazy bids some items get? >>
I haven't really pondered my curiousity that much but I suppose that I find it interesting that there are so many that have the knowledge to amass disposable income to spend on coins but lack the knowledge and common sense to educate themselves on what they are buying!

Poor guy... you're a baaaad man.
To stay on topic those coins aren't that hard to find, must be that they have auction fever, i.e. want the thrill of bidding and winning something.

Maybe, maybe not.
It's not necessarily true. While it's true PCI is a second- or third-tier service, those are at least green-label slabs. While I have not tried crossing PCI to PCGS, I have had PCI green-labels actually upgrade when they were sent to NGC!
PCI gets a bad rap more for its inconsistency than for its overgrading, I think. Because they are inconsistent, one can sometimes find undergraded coins in their holders (at least, the older green-label ones). I have one PCI gold-label slab in my possession, and I think the grade is right on the money- neither too high nor too low. But from what I hear, the current gold-labels are pretty bad. I quit submitting to PCI a long time ago because they brutally undergraded too many of my submissions. This doesn't mean I won't buy a nice coin in one of their holders, though.
