Painted Gibraltar coin

Just found this: Gibraltar 50 pence

The coin is ruined, but I actually think the colours are nice. Especially the dolphin side of the coin. It's a bit expensive, though.

Any opinions?

  • Marcel,
My personal opinion is that painted coins are ruined as far as my interest is concerned. That is just my opinion but I find it difficult enough to find "natural" coins in good grades that I can afford.
To me it has been ruined as a collection coin.

  • I also consider it ruined. In a nice way, though image

And to me it doesn't really matter if this guy paints a few modern coins and sell them. It's a lot worse when people do that to an old coin.

Actually, it doesn't look bad to me. Looks like it might have a clear coat of laquer over it too, from the reflections.

For a painted coin, that's quite attractive. And since it's only a modern, there's no harm done. image
