Those are delicious by the way.

The animal series 2 zlotych pieces are great coins - wonderful artistry. The scan doesn't capture the nice color of the Nordic Gold. Yeah, yeah, I know it's brass, but it's a nicer, shinier alloy than the silly Sac dollars.

There's also a matching set of 10 zlotych proof and unc animal issues of .900 silver. The proofs are stunning.

John.... that confused me. This coin is not copper, brass. I don't know what Nordic gold is for sure but I believe it to be brass.

I don't know but I think this is copper-nickle. If I had the lighting correct you could see how "bright" it is. Very bright.

    Am I missing something?

Nordic Gold is a specific type of brass. I don't know the exact proportions of the alloy, but you're right, it's very shiny. I've got several of these pieces, and I'm truly impressed by the artistry on the coins.

Edited to add that yours appears to be of nickel. I'm at work and don't have Krause handy, so I can't look it up.

My miss-understanding I think. It is NOT brass or copper colored. Very "shiny" nickle.
edited to add: You are right..not a good photo..

Right, newbie. Edited my last post. I wasn't aware that they were making them of nickel, but the Warsaw mint makes hundreds of different designs every year in almost every known composition. There's no way to keep all of it in your head.

  • Thanks John... I thought I was going blindimage

I have a lot of these later coins and it fasinates me all the changes in designs. While they are not rare I will most likely post some more photos. Many designs (obv) and very, very often.

By the way, the obverse on Polish coins is defined as the side with the Eagle on it - exactly opposite to US coinage.

  • That I did not know. Just listed the "unusual" side first. Thanks for the info

  • The '03 Krause lists it as KM-289, copper-nickel, 300,000 minted, European catfish. Nice coin! Collecting every modern 2 zlote would be a challenge!
