I forgot to write my type of submission on the package I sent to PCGS yesterday with 4 coins to be graded for free. Does this mean I will have to sit in the corner with the dunce cap on for a week or what?

Correct. Although, even if you didn't, they'd just look at the amount you entered for grading and process it accordingly.
