IMPORTING COIN PICTURES

I have a question for the great minds. Have any of you sought the electronic files of coins you purchased from any of the larger dealers (i.e., David Hall, David Lawrence, etc.) or from the auction houses (i.e., Teletrade, Heritage, etc.)? If so, what was the outcome. Thanks.

  • What do you mean "sought"? Asked them for them? They always e-mail pic's on request. You mean use them with/without permission? Who cares. If you bought the coin & you want to use the pic do you really think they'll assert intellectual property/copyright infringement? image

You should always get permission to use an image that is not yours. It is not only the law, but the ethical thing to do.

You see coins from Heritage all of the time both here and on the coin forum. If Heritage has a problem with this I am sure they would come on and say so. Some of thier people post here so they do keep a eye on this site.

I did post a coin from Larry Whitlow one time. Before doing the post I did seek and receive permission from them to do so. Mike was more than happy to let me post the coin. Of course it was a Killer Coin that nothing but Excellent remarks could be made. If you are making negative comments about a Dealers Web Site coin I believe that would be in Very bad taste.

Ebay is a whole different Ball Game in my opinion though. Negative comments about coins on Ebay is doing a service for our community here.

  • Some years ago there was an issue between Teletrade and a collector who was borrowing their images. After that, TT added a caveat to their Terms and Conditions stating that all images on their website were their sole property, or something to that effect.

Taking a coin from a dealers web site and posting it for information, before buying would seem in good taste.Al

    Hello All,

Thank you for your responses. My interest is in seeking pictures of coins I purchased and wanted to know if others have been successful in doing so.

  • Larry,

I save in a database file the images of all the coins that I purchased, importing from the original auction (heritage, ebay, teletrade etc.) to compare with the real coin when its arrived. In the same file I complete with price, date of purchase, number of bids and bidders etc.

Sometime, in special cases, I file the images of the coins that I lost to check if it come back in the future image

  • I post coin photo's from dealers sites that I have bought all the time. I really don't see why they would be upset with free advertisement.
