Number one, make sure the coin is slabbed by a major TPG if you're not ABSOLUTELY certain of its authenticity. You can always crack it out. Also, go after key dates and/or coins in high grades - MS60 and higher. Not only will you enjoy them more, but they will have a better chance of appreciating in value. Finally, check your bidding against as many reputable price quides as you can. Don't rush!

If you must remain on the Light Side, try putting together a nice matched set of uncleaned fine 1875 twenty cent pieces from all three mints. By the time you finish, you should have another few grand to spend on the next project.

Well pick a couple you want the most that you can afford to buy in the grade you want.
Then go to the Buy sell trade coins section and post WTB: Trade dollar pcgs au58 or whatever.
    And see if anyone responds.
Several members here are coin dealers and have web sites you can check also.

Just work on a decent set of Lincolns. 09-29 in VF-AU, 30-34 in AU+, and the rest BU. They are plentiful, don't cost a heck of a lot, and can be really challenging to put together in a matching set.
