I DESPISE DEALERS WHO DO THIS

Dealers do many thing that get on my nerves but nothing, and my nothing irritates (that's putting it kindly) me more than one common dealer behavior.

What I'm talking about is throwing coins (in flips, 2x2s) on the cabinets. I'ts bad enough when they do it but it's worse because it happened to the coins I JUST BOUGHT imageimageimage Needles to say I'll never buy from dealer again (it happed to me last week at a coin show)

Why do you think that they call them flips.

I've had it happen to me too. I've always wondered what damage it did, when I see a scratch on the back.

  • I only deal with a few, of the same, dealers and they have never thrown a coin. I guess I've been lucky! Plus, I buy and sell Colonial (copper) coinage and the dealers should know better!

The coins are tougher than you think, but it's still an aggravating thing to see. Even when they throw slabs around it bothers me.

  • I gotta admit - I hate that behavior as well. I'll take it a step further. I hate when they do it to slabbed coins also. Reason being, I like my slabbed coins to stay as nice as possible in that little plastic time capsule it resides in and when dealers are throwing them all over the place (on counters, ore display cases) it scratches and tears up the slab. Replacing a 2X2 is easy, replacing the slab costs a bit more money and time (sending it back and forth). I have seen some slabbed coins that litterally look like a car ran over it a few times. Some were so bad that you could not really study the coin well because of the excessive scratches on the slab.
So between the potential damage of mis-handling the coins in flips or 2X2's, plus the tossing around all the time of slabbed coins, I tend to get a bit irritated as well. My wife says anal, I say irritated.
Thats my story and I am sticking to it!!

P.S. - I also hate all of that sticky residue that is left on slabs from too many stickers being put on and taken off. I cleaned some off with Goo-Gone once and took off the hologram on the back of the PCGS slab with the residue!!

I was at an informal swapping session once (with friends, thank goodness), and tossed a coin in a flip over to my buddy, on the opposite end of the table.

    Plooonk!

If that's the worst thing that has happened to you, you have have no idea how lucky you have been!

But I agree that people should treat coins with more respect, especially AFTER they have sold them.
