I just don't get it anymore....

I've just about given up on finding one of these. 1819. What's more frustrating is the overgrading. Take this one for example. Barely any eye, the clasp and bustline are really incomplete, there is little hair detail and the reverse is WORN(not weak strike)enough that the rims are incomplete. Why call it a VF if it doesn't even make a script for F?
Why not just sell it as a possible F?

Overgrading is a cornerstone of the Ebay coin business. Some shmuck will pay more if you call it VF instead of F.

I've talked to a board member who's seen Ernie's stuff in person... says the grading is right on. His pictures do look soft... maybe it really is a VF...

I've bought some of Ernie's stuff. His pictures are very accurate. His opinion of the grade is consistently 1-2 grades overstated.

I've dealt with ernie in the past and I've got to agree with Barry. I was happy with the coin, but that was based on my opinion of the grade not his. He consistently overgrades imho.

never mind the grade he gives it... just look at the coin and the price, and decide if you want that coin at that price... I have done it twice and have been pleased, (bought an 1840-O quarter and an 1839 half dollar from him) he sometimes has the tough coins that you cannot find elsewhere, and is a very fast and secure shipper. His grades are "optimistic" but never mind that, do you like the coin at the price? I've found that you sometimes have to pay a little more to find the scarcer coins, and a problem free Fine-to-very-fine 1819 quarter sure qualifies as scarce.
