Focused sound wave energy causes the molecules of the plastic to vibrate enough to melt together welding the two shells together. (The sealing dies are shaped so that the sound energy is only focused around the edges where the shells come together and that is where the welding takes place.) And if you are around one of these mahines while it is operating it SOUNDS like Miss Liberty is screaming like a banshee.
