All 4 Wildlife Medals now sold out.

The National Wildlife Medal series is now completely sold out, even though the last medals are not even scheduled to be shipped by the Mint until December. Now I'm waiting to see if the Mint will notify me that they are cutting my orders back...

I missed out on the Salmon. It looks like an awesome looking medal. Sure would have loved to have one of those at the issue price. Seems like they are going to be over $100 for a little while. Guess I'll have to wait until the hoopla is over to get it.

I did order a bunch of the others. The mint confirmed the order and charged my card. Can they come back and reduce the order?
  • Have you seen any of these on ebay?

Yep, but hopefully they won't pull that stunt. They got a lot of complaints when they did that to some folks who ordered the Buffalo Dollars before the Mint put on ordering limits. These medals sold very conservatively during the subscription time period, but really picked up momentum after the Salmon sold out. Shortly thereafter, the Elk was gone, then the Eagle (which has mintage of 35K vs. 25K for other 3) and finally the Duck yesterday or today. Poof!

They are selling on EBAY and all are now drawing big premiums.

  • I think I ordered some, I will have to check my email. I can't find a way on the Mint web site to check open orders.

I got my Eagle, but my Salmon, Elk, and Duck still show "back-ordered". I hope I get them...
  • I am in the same situation as you, flaminio. I thought that mint subscritions would be honored early, but these medals selling on ebay while subs orderers are on backorder puts the kaboosh to that thinking.image

I predict that 10 years from the going retail price for them will be $10 each.

They are selling for $65+ on eBay. I wish I ordered more (and I hope I order gets filled)

I order the subscription too and so far have only recieved the eagle. I have no idea when the Salmon will be shipping since it still says 09/15 for an expected shipping date. At least they updated the date on the Elk and Duck to December 1st adn 15th.

I'll take that bet. And to make sure you profit 25% after you buy them for $10 each at that time, I'll commit today to buy them from you for $12.50 on Oct. 1, 2013. Contract to be voided by either of our deaths before then. How many do you want to commit to sell me? I'll write it up.

    Greg,

I've seen your auctions on ebay...I remember you had them listed as pre-orders.

I ordered from the mint as well (stupid me, I thought they would be big sellers, had ordered more than 1, then re-thought based on what others said about commems like those, and them not being coins, and cut back to 1 each (except 3 of the duck).

I have NOT received any of mine, other than the eagle, yet. have you? Has ANYONE received any of them other than the eagle?

If the price is still up there, I will sell off 1-2 of my extra duck ones. If the eagle finally sold all 35,000 out, and the others are only 25,000, then there are 10,000 that will be guaranteed to NOT have complete sets.

Relayer, to the best of my knowledge, the ones on ebay that are selling them honestly let people know in the auction that they have confirmed orders from the mint but do not have the item in hand yet (greg says this in his auctions). Otherwise, if you bid on any, it is most likely not available and there is no idea when you will get them.

    Ron

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • Being a duck hunter I ordered three of them(duck medals). But in my infinate wisdom I canceled the order a month ago. Duh!!!

These medals are perfect for the TV people to promote.
    1)great theme
    2)struck with new laser dies
    3)low mintage
    4)Duck sold out in days

They can put them in those new NGC set holders and they'd look awesome. They won't be able to get enough of them.

Even if demand from collectors is low these things are going to be hot with all the promoters. They'll be over $100 for a while and then settle. I don't think they'll go under $50 for many years.

Hindsight is 20/20. Wish I bought more than I did.

<< <i>I think I ordered some, I will have to check my email. I can't find a way on the Mint web site to check open orders. >>

Mikey, if you have the order number, you can check status, but I don't know of a way to "search" for any open oerders.
  • I have only received my Eagle medal so far.

I called the Mint just yesterday regarding my order on these (and my First Flight commems as well).

The Mint rep told me that they were currently backordered (duh, I knew that) and that they were due to be shipped out by the last week in October. *crosses fingers*

I have been able to check the status of my orders from the Mint on their web site, but I signed up for an account on their site and made my orders through there. If you have done that, all you need to do is sign in to "My Account" and take a look at your "Order History" and it will list the order numbers and the date the order was made. You then just click on any of those links and it will retrieve the order status from the database.

Of course, for all these orders they still have all the outdated ship dates associated with them. That is why I gave them a phone call.

Anyway, hope to be getting my orders here in the very near future.

what i don't understand about these medals on eBay is the same thing i didn't understand about the Buffalo Dollars on eBay-------the sellers don't have them, yet are able to offer them with a "delivery confirmation" and the bidders are lining up at three times issue!!!image my memory is fresh of collectors/speculators who missed out on the Buffalo Dollars even though they had confirmed orders. i wonder how that will play out here.

    only in America!!

  • Having a Salmon on a Medal celebrating the National Wildlife Refuge system is hypocritical and even laughable. The Klamath National wildlife refuge at one time supported the largest native run of Salmon on the west coast. But due to farming on the refuge and the use of the refuge water for irrigation of Alfalfa fields 30,000 Salmon died last year in the largest Salmon die off in US history. The once plentiful native runs are now listed as endangered species. 7 Million water fowl use to winter on the refuge, now the numbers are down to 500K, the Klamath also supports the largest wintering population of Bald Eagles. The wildlife refuge system is a bad joke and farming and irrigation on refuges needs to halt completly much less drilling. These are supposed to be refuges for wildlife from humans and this assault by the Bush admin has to stop.

I feel a little better after venting.

    Amen.

Bush is indeed the punchline to the bad joke.

Yes, it's too bad all the Europeans had to move to Oregon, Washington, California and Idaho and mess things up for the wildlife.
At least there is a convenient scapegoat in the form of the USFWS, among others. And venting is good. I do it all the time.
Never-the-less, I think the medals are cool looking, regardless of how our past and present politicians mismanaged the system.
