  • there are more Pepe Frias master sets registered than hockey HOF registry sets....very disturbing
  • I guess it's time for us to get off the hockey wagon?

  • Darton's comments are:

"He was born into the world as Jesus Maria Frias Andujar. To fans of the game, he is known simply as “Pepe”. Pepe was able to rise from poverty in the Dominican Republic to become a utility infielder for nine years in the Major Leagues. As a light hitting defensive specialist, Pepe made it possible for players such as Rafael Belliard and Abraham Nunez to enjoy successful MLB careers. Pepe does not hold any records or major accomplishments, but he does hold a special spot in the hearts of the young Dominican players he has counseled over the years and continues to help today. Sadly, it is alleged that Pepe is serving a two year prison sentence for “pimp-slapping” a nine year old youth who mocked his career homerun total. I was told that participating in his Master Set could help Pepe become a free man. Free Pepe!"

I am slowly overcoming my "1952 Topps PSA 7" depression, and will probably complete this set soon. I still have a few cards from RobE that I need to grade (a '76, '77, and '80), so that should take me to about 70%.

And if anyone has a '78, '79, or '81F in PSA 8 or higher, let's talk!

Welcome Back John...I had a feeling that '52 wouldnt keep you down for long.

  • I've been reading the message boards for a while now, but have never posted (3 test posts). I'm glad to see that at least a few people have read my owner's comments (Frias set). I'm approaching 100 Mike Schmidt cards for the Master Set and have yet to post any comments. I guess the Frias set just lends itself to having fun with it. It would be nice to see someone actually get to 100%. Good luck to collectors of Pepe......

Even though the set started out as a joking kinda fun sort of thing it's kind of a new milestone for the registry.Sooner or later I'm going to guess that a few more common players might pop up in set requests.

I don't know why, but lately, I've sold a lot of cards I didn't expect to sell that turned out to be sold to family members and friends of Jim Norris,Gary Lavelle and Mike Paxton just to give you an idea of some common players. It wouldn't surprise me if someday these people collecting these cards might request a set for whomever they know and you'll see more Pepe Frias like names every now and then.

Somebody has to Hook John up so he can get to 50%.Even a Cert# would help him get his "Best of the Best" notariety.

The saga of my disillusionment was in effect around September 1st of this year, and thus I didn't submit the two "RobE" Frias cards before membership was required. These are the only two cards I need to grade, and I don't want to have to spend $90 to do it. I am trying to get my brother to grade some of his cards, so if I can scrounge up four from him then I may pony up the dough, but I don't know when he'll relent and let me into his album.

I'll be happy to purchase a PSA '78, '79, or '81F Pepe card from anyone. I'd prefer PSA 8 or higher. I'll pay grading fee price (say $6.50) for an 8, and $10 for a 9.

  • Thanks for the welcome, Virtualizard. I would have more time to post if I wasn't so busy finding rare Stargell cards for you......image
