It looks like a Large "8" to me only because it looks more symetrical than a Small "8" piece. Also, it is medium letters and not large! Red Book shows a price of 150 in G-4! Go figure!

I thought it might be a large 8 but it doesn't look right. (bad pic!) The 8 is shorter than the 1 + the 3 is bigger than the 8 + Extra space between the 1 & 8 = small 8 ? I'm am by far NO expert, I just fell in love with Large cents and I'm trying to learn to identify them.

You don't need get all this scientific in determining the variety. This variety has star 10 lower than any other 1834. The stars are counted from the lower left around to the lower right by the way.
1834 small date large stars N-1 Rarity 1. Coin has some problems, $25 might be a bit generous. But it looks like it may be a early die state (Crack through stars 2 - 13 is faint) which might be a little more desirable but probably nowhere close to $180. Yeah , you are missing something. Be glad.
