Real, AT, or great lighting/computer enhancement?

What is up with this guy? Would it look like this all the time, or just when held at a certain angle?

Do the dark areas on the chin/cheek cover up some nicks - and how was it caused? electrode contact?

I really would like a coin like this but scratch my head - is it just awsome album toning? bag toning? or blast white with a good computer enhancer?

Looks like natural toning to me, only slightly enhanced by angle and lighting.

I'm pretty sure that is not a white coin that was computer enhanced.

Enhanced angle and lighting, but looks like a great coin! I bet it's a fair bit darker straight on.

I had the opportunity to see this coin at the St. Louis show. The picture is 99% correct on the colors and the luster for the coin. The dark spot is not as noticeable in person as it shows in this angled shot. Very nice and good color for the date.

    yes it is my coin.

FYI the coin sold for 25 times sheet (as if it matters for this kind of coin)

The coin was owned by someone on the board that if that persons name is mentioned then everyone would have a different view on how nice the coin is. It is almost a PL coin and the colors look like the photo at any angle.

I confess. I bought this coin from a private collector at a Long Beach show sometime early last year and put it in my collection. For an example of a toned 1878-S, the coin ranked 2nd for the date/mintmark of those I've owned.

I also feel the piece is undergraded by NGC, not that that really matters when it comes to the actual value of the piece.

Whoever owns it now has snagged a really cool coin.
