( good ole commerse) trading in a wad of useless coins and then investing 2 or 300 in halves. go from there. by then i should sort out what i need the cash them in then by the end of the week go to the coin shop and buy some real coins sounds like a plan. i wish i could get buffalo nickels out of nickel rolls but never happens

Its just luck of the draw, you might find 50 or might find none.

I wish you the best of luck.

About one month ago, I was feeling lucky so I went to the bank and got $60 in halves, and got nothing of note. Then later that week I actually got a silver quarter in change at the grocery store! Occasionally I see a dime in change, but I was really surprised to see a quarter. I knew it by the sound it made as soon as the cashier put it my hand, but I waited until I got out of the store to check for sure. I was so excited!

My point is, there's cool stuff out there waiting to be found, and you never know where it's going to pop up so keep looking!

  • Good Luck! Most will be clad, an occasional silver (pre-65 unlikely) and every once in a while, a Frankie or a Walker. Whether or not you're successful, it's still a lot of fun. I always have several dozen OBW Lincoln wheat rolls hoarded for the winter here in Wis. Rarely do I find a winner, but it sure passes the time and keeps me from spending money in some tavern!!

  • My wife just got a job at a local bank, and she told me that the vault superviser stated that she had $1000 in halves, that had been there since she started. I got all excited and had my wife bring $100 worth home - not a darn thing. I am going to keep trying, she told me that they are not all in the same rolls - who knows. Still fun though...
    SNIKT!
You are doing well, subject 15837. You are a good person.
  • Hi RR1967,

It's possible that, with a large amount of halves, it could be a "drop off" bank
for a regular half dollar hunter, and nothing will show up.

But, where your wife if working at the bank, you should have no trouble returning the rolls; with that
in mind, might still want to simply clear the vault of the remaining $900 before someone else comes in
    looking for halves.

Worth a shot; happy hunting !!

    Steve
