I can't stay away from historical numismatic literature/books!

I picked up a Max Mehl 1930 Price Guide last week and now I just poped this one ---
I got his albums now I got his price list as well!

Take that guide which "your dear grandpa (Harold, maybe?)" gave you. Go to a shop (maybe an overpriced outfit where you wouldn't spend money, anyway) and pretend you're clueless... see some nice stuff, then look in that price guide. When the seller says $xx... point him to the guide where the coin is only worth a fraction of that price- in a BETTER condition.
Then rinse... then repeat

<< <i>That looks neat! How much? >>
$5.25 plus $1.50 shipping plus $1.30 insurance(optional) plus 8.250% sales tax = $8.48.
Good find Michael.
A very prominent numismatist, pretty much known to everyone on these boards, offered to send me a few boxes of stuff for "free", for just postage, a few years back. I thought I was getting a good deal
Two months later I have 8 boxes of stuff, hundreds of items with no common theme, impossible to catagorize, and no place to put it. I had to make some hard decisions about what to keep, what to Ebay, what to trade, and what to toss.
So, if you decide to start collecting numismatic literature, be very choosy and make a plan, because it is very easy to get sidetracked.
<< <i>You really nailed one here. It's one of the very rare 1939 copies with paper covers rather than being hardbound >>
C'mon, are you for real? I just bought it because I like WR albums and this seemed to fit with the Mehl price guide.
Michael
pretty please? ,with peace dollars sprinkled on top?
Check out the website here : null. You can receive the weekly newsletter for free, but it's worth the nominal fee to join and get the magazine too.
The club is one of the most interesting and vital specialty organizations around (their magazine is called The Asylum, which should tell you something). No collection is complete without a library full of books and well-written auction catalogues.
Congrats on your new-found interest!

I also agree that you have to be careful or else you will get overwelmed by the amount of material out there. For the most part I am sticking to collecting issues of the NUMISMATIST unless I see a book that is an once in a life time find like the book I got.
I also HIGHLY recomend joining THE NBS. I have been a member for about a year and between the magazine and all the help that I recived from members on diggrent projects I have going on the $15.00 dues have been well worth it. CHRIS
Paid $36 bucks for it and another (Waterford Water Cure).
I thought it would be intresting reading.
I hope I didn't get burned by the price.
I also picked up a Cohen coin price book from the 30's.
It seems with winter comming up I'm starting to stock pile the reading material.
