E-Bay add-ons

Has anyone tried E-Bay's add-on services (bold, gallery listing, etc.)? If so, do you find that it helps to bring in a higher price, or do you find these add-ons don't help over just a basic auction listing?

  • I have a question and think it would fit perfectly in this thread. How much does it cost to open a eBay store?

When I sell I always use the "gallery" option. I like it because if someone is doing a quick scan of the page your item will be shown instead of the buyer opening each auction just to see the pic. I think it's 25 cents extra for that add on. (That is not the "gallery featured" option which is $20 bucks)

Bold is useless, gallery photo absolutely worth the extra 25c - I do it with every auction. Featured Plus WILL pay for itself ($19.95) with better material and is a good draw if you're listing multiple coins.

The Gallery is a good deal for a quarter. It gives your listing 2.5 times the height. Highlight and bold don't do much beyond that.
The $19.95 gallery feature is good for larger ticket items - it does bring more bids.

You can open a store for $9.95 a month (1st month free), then listings are a nickel for 30 days. You need to run auctions to bring people into the store, but some will sell on store searches. You can have items sit there for 3 months and still no sell, then put them on the main board at the same price and get it sold.

I agree Bold is not needed, as I find most people find things by searching by word's/titles'. The search function will find just as fast in normal lettering as bold.

I do like the gallery photo, it may grab someone's attention if you have a nice coin showing!

  • On a super high dollar auction, some of those ebay fund raising doo dads work well. But I question the use of them on an auction under $500. Perhaps for a car or an unique item.

  • Thanks -- I think I'll give the gallery option a try on my next coin for a quarter. It should be a $600 coin or so, so it might be good to get the extra traffic. Doesn't sound like most people think the other options are worth it...

I love the photo pack. It costs $1, and gives you a free gallery image, up to six pics, and supersize. I also appreciate good coin pics, so perhaps that prejudices my selling practices. Lots of good pics will sell a nice coin. IMO

  • Yes, I love pictures in auctions too. Fortunately I have a website I can host pictures on and link to them from my auction, so it doesn't cost me anything extra to add pictures...
  • Gallery is worth the 25 cents even on small ticket items. As far as the featured gallery for 19.99, You will probably get at least 5 times the hits from a normal listing. I had a certified Lincoln 1914-D that I listed with only the 25 cent gallery as an extra. Coin did not sell. My counter was 104. I relisted spending the 19.95 and I did sell and my counter was 780. Exposure helps.
