A barber dime I dug up metal detecting

I found this barber dime about 7" underground in an old lake bed here in New Joisey. All I did was wipe the dirt off with a soft cloth and some water and this is what I got. The scan does not do the coin justice.

  • Here is a 41 merc I found not too far from the barber. Unfortunately I hit it with my digging tool and scratched the obverse.

Nice finds image Had that part of the lake where you found he coins once been a swimming area?

Yes I believe it was a swimming area. Sadly for me all the silver I find is of the 10 cent variety. I have found no silver quarters or buffalo nickels there. I have pulled 3 V nickels out of there but they were so badly deteriorated that I could barely tell what they were.

Nope ... no seated coinage. I do find a lot of IHC's though but of course they are in terrible shape after being in ground for 100 years or so.

  • Not bad, considering that you got it "DIRT" cheap.

It is in a town called Collingswood near Camden and Cherry Hill. Are you a metal detectorist also? I would gladly take you to the park and show you where I find most of my coins.

    Hey Paul!

I just read your above post after I PM'ed you. That's quite a long ride for me but I do appreciate the offer! I do MD but never find the
time to go as often as I'd like. I was just curious if you were in the northern area. Thanks again for the invite! image
