Will PCGS recognize.........

and attribute, on their own; without me documenting whatever attribution on the submission form, those attributions like DCAM, CAM, ACCENTED HAIR AND THE LIKE, If were to submit my U.S. Mint proof sets? I know NOTHING, when it comes to this fortay(recognition on my own that is). Since becoming a member of this forum, I've been compelled, after all the rhetoric about the board concerning the above types, to submit them to PCGS for grading. I thank you all for doing this to me. I'm now a NUMISADDICT, FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING OF COURSE, and need some feedback regarding this matter...Thanks ahead of time!.........

    I think they will if it is an obvious one. If it's not an obvious one, I don't think they will.

    There's a huge difference between attributes that go with the grade, DCAM, RD, FH, FBL, FSB, DMPL - and those that are noting a coin variety of some sort (accented hair, doubled die, etc). I don't know the answer to your question other than to say if they aren't noting the attributes of the grade on their own they aren't doing their job. I saw that you were lumping these importantly separate things together and figured I'd help by mentioning they are very different.

    I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.

    Always looking for nice type coins

  • I would just send them in as is. I have sent Morgans in before and attributed them as "PL" but they came back with no attribute because PCGS did not agree with me anyway. Even when I have accidently put the wrong date or mm on a line# for the coin, the coin would come back with the correct info. So from my experience with PCGS, they tend to be on the ball.

    I have often wondered about this. (I know, by the way, that this will never happen) But, let's say I send in the most beautiful Morgan Dollar I have ever seen, looking for a 66PL, and let's say that the coin is an actual proof. In this case, I have filled out the paperwork incorrectly. Can I be confident that in this situation, the coin will come back PR and not MS?

  • I asked David Hall sorta the same question. His answer here!
  • Then explain Russ's finest known accented hair Kennedy. He sent in a NON-accented hair coin and identified it on the paperwork as accented hair deliberately to see if they would catch it. (Were they actually doing the attributions or just using what was on the paperwork.) They didn't. So now the finest known accented hair is a coin with regular hair.
  • coppercoins;

    As stated in the prior thread, I know nothing. However, I do see scans at this forum; wherein, I've asked myself, after peering upon the mid 80s thru 90s proof sets my pop left me, do I have the coins that will get a 70 dcam, cam, accented hair(especially my Kennedys), fs (nicks & pennies), fb (dimes). I have 2 sets that stand out, a 95 & 84. Will the graders at PCGS recognize these types?......image
