home from my first coin show !

Felt the Baltimore show would be a little too intimidating for my first show,
so when I heard Michael Dixon was holding one just outside Frederick,Md.
I decided to check it out.
There were about 25-30 dealers and everyone was very friendly and helpful.
One guy did tell me it was a buyer's market for Morgans, that they were selling
at an all-time low ! Don't know what price sheets he's been reading !

Of the graded coins, I'd say about 20% PCGS
30% NGC
30% ANACS
20% others

Picked up a 1880-S PCGS MS65 Morgan and a 1904-O PCGS MS64.
Just checked the PCGS daily price guide and seems I got both for a few bucks
under todays price. More than paid for the gas .
Had a great time !

Glad you had fun at your first show. It's a real experience the first time!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

The show and auction went well. All the dealers were pleased with their sales!
    .
For a small show just beginning, it brings out some people with some awesome coins! There was a monumental transaction take place, in the 5 figures for one coin, a coin that does not trade hands-PERIOD! I won't elaborate, but let Merz, Wolf or Ken talk about it in another thread.
    .
Thanks to all who attended and made it a success!

Congradulations on your first show.It was a nice show to say the least. You should have stopped by the table I was at and introduced yourself.I purchased two Peace $'s myself.I got both of them for less than grey sheet ask.I admit to having seen the product of the 5 figure coin sale, and was like a kid getting to meet his idol.imageimageimageimageimageMichael isn't kidding about this coin.It will not be seen at an average show or large show by many. This 1974 Lincoln was supurb.I know my Lincolns and this coin was worth it.Look back at the discussion of Michael's last show to see what makes it so special.

Heck of a show. What a job you did Michael. Thanks again for the awesome lincoln cameo proof. It's being put away for Christmas (since Half-Life 2 has been delayed, he-he).

I won't comment on the 5 figure item except to say...no one would believe me anyway! Monday will be interesting, I hope it works for everyone. image

Got a cool 1884-cc DMPL, 63/64. The mirrors are 10-11 inches on the Obverse and 13 inches on the reverse!!!!
Needless to say, I'll be attending the next show!!!!
  • Great news indeed!! Nothing like that first show! The Baltimore show in December would be perfect for you now that you have brushed the service. There is nothing like the experience of a good show. The finds, the ffiends, the food,.....okay maybe just the first two.
Glad you maed it out there, hope to see you in Baltimore!

Great pickup on the CC! Are you planning on slabbing it?
  • Baltimore. Yes I think the 30 tables at today's show helped prime me
for the 1,300 expected in December.
Just hope all my friends and family will like coins for Christmas !!!!

Yes, it'll be slabbed, probably PCGS. It's close to UDM....but I don't think the obverse quite makes it.

Edited to add: I believe ANACS is 12 inches on each side.
  • Let us know on the grade if you get it slabbed.. image
