  • Good finds! Anything found out of the ordinary is good. My circulation finds usually come from the bank where I work. However last weekend I received a buffalo nickel in change from the local Kroger. I didn't realize I had it until I got home. Usually I check my change before I leave the store. You guessed it, for some reason I didn't do that this time. I was sure it was one with the date worn off. When I turned it over you could make out the date as 1934. The date is a little better than barely readable. Believe me, if I had discovered I had it while I was at the store, I would have had that cashier checking every nickel she had! image

be very happy that i am not your cashier . cause in the past customers have seen 3 or 4 1959s in a row in the change and ask do i have any wheats. then i always play coy saying yes a whole stack of them here from teh 30s . then they want them to swap and im always like cant do that. i cant tamper with store funds.no matter what. then at the the end of the night just swap it out cause noone cares. hehe. im a little wise ass i know but its all in the name of ME.

my cashiers i manage now say there isnt an I in team ( but since i was in their shoes once before i got taught maybe not . butwhen it comes to customers theres a helluva lot of ME in tEaM. which counts. and when you get thecnical you really cant swap coins in a draw to a customer no matter what. and only with workers depending on a managers disgression. so if it is what i need i tell them i get first shot. if i dont need it you want it have it. its called seniority of position. i got it when i was low and its a tradition. but i let them get the 40s and 50s wheats thats what they really want anyway. i take all coins older than 1940 , silvers and 1955s. they have all the rest .

When I was about 17 and working in a grocery store one of the checkout girls called me up to the front to show me what someone used to buy grocerys with. The store had an old bread pan in the safe that they put odds and ends in, and the old silver that the store got from that customer filled it about half full. There was quite an assortment...Morgans, Walking Liberty and Franklin halves, Barber thru Washington quarters. All the coins were common date circs. The store manager let us buy them at face and after all was said and done, I ended up with about $10.00 face value.

There's something special about finding an old coin...either in circulation or with a detector. Those finds seem to mean more to me than adding a BU coin to my collection.

OK, but you need some serious spell check, unless of course you're trying for e.e. cummings.
