Comment and Grade on this 93-s Morgan?

jdimmickjdimmick Posts: 9,791 ✭✭✭✭✭
This is the current 1893-s Morgan that I have. I've had it for a few years now, but have recieved an opportunity to upgrade, which I am gettin, just a matter of wrestlin up the funds together to get it. This most likely would mean that I would have to sell this one at a later time so:

I have always thought this coin to be a little undergraded as to what the PCGS label indicates, especially based on what I see holdered today. So I would like unbiased opinion or comment as to what you feel the grade of this coin is, based on the photo? (just like to know what others think, mainly for reference when time comes to sell it)

thanks
jim dimmick

My official guess is VF20. I like the coin a lot. Although dark is not my favorite, that is a very nice, original, even piece.

Ok, this is the 2nd time this week that i have seen attachments that I can't view.
They say they point to a place on Collector's Universe that no longer exists.

    Anyone know what's going on?

Editted to add the actual error message:

    Collectors Universe 404 Error

The page you are trying to reach on Collectors Universe is no longer here. If you would like to go to the home page of Collectors Universe click here.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • I'll agree with VF20 - here's the pic I took the liberty of putting it together for you - hope that's ok.

Thanks for the host, The pic quality is poor from my end because I had to size it down less than 50 bites. I wish they would adjust that up to at least 80.

An absolute beauty! That one should do well for you and, if it doesn't, keep it rather than give it away!!!
  • I just had to chime in and tell you that this is a beauty. I agree with the VF20 grade. She also looks like she's in original condition, which is quite rare for an 1893-S. I can't believe you're upgrading. I only have one in AG03, and I had to do a lot of horse trading to just get there.

  • F-15..STRETCHING IT TO VF-20...
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • I agree there is a chance she would only grade F15. I would have to see her in person to tell for sure which grade is correct.

In the instance of this particular popular coin, the technical grade matters less, far less to me than its outstanding originality. Call it F-15 or VF-20, whatever you like, ultimately it boils down to the price you pay anyway and a coin like this is worth STRONG money for whatever the grade - to a knowledgeable buyer.
  • I'd also give it a VF-20 but PCGS may not be so kind as you suspected.
I have to agree with others who feel this is a coin worth keeping.
  • I have a 1900 O/CC I sent to PCGS that looks exactly like this one and it got a F12 grade assigned. In the end it was not worth the postage to grade it, but it looks nice. Nice gun metal look to it.
  • There is no separation between the leaves below the cotton bolls. This should keep it from grading VF according to all the books I've seen.

    Fine. (But I'm always wrong.)

The one I have is ANACS F12 and yours is better. I would not hesitate to go VF-20 from what I've seen holdered of late. Nice color and origionality is evident.

    Thanks yall,
The first few nailed it dead on!

Its a PCGS-20, I always thought that it looked more like a 25, but maybe thats because I am the owner. (You know the old saying, owner of the coin is at least worth a point or two on the grade!) And, also because its so natural with nice eye-appeal.

For those of you who asked, I never thought I would upgrade this piece either due to it being so nice, and even though I was not looking for an upgrade, I have an opp to pick up a higher grade from a collector selling out his Morgan $ collection.

    Thanks for the comments!

    PS
For those intrested, I will be placing it up for sale at the end of the month on E-bay as soon as I get the other in hand.

I agree that the coin looks better than VF20, and I'd sure like to own it at that grade!

If there's any way you can swing it, I'd urge you to keep both it and the new one.
