What do you do when this happens??

handymanhandyman Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭✭✭
Invoice #4109670 Ive sent in this Pete Rose card 2 times bc I thought it was a nine for sure, Both times they graded it an 8 like it was before. Well this time its trimed, What should I do? Ask PSA to review it? Im really bumed out bc I payed 600.00 for it bc it was a high end card. Im hoping psa just sliped and its really not trimmed, it sized up when I checked it, and if you ran the serial numbers before and after my pete rose card the guy who had it graded the first time had PSA 9's all over the place of mantle, aaron, and mays.
Not how I wanted to start my weekend, but I am happy with the other grades
Not bashing PSA at all Im just upset that my all time favorite card came back the way it did, Oh well life goes on.

Is $600 a fair price for a high end PSA 8?

Alan It is probably a little high but when you pray to a statue of pete rose before you go to bed each night, it's probably worth itimage If the card got upgraded it is a bargain and if not you still have a card that you know is sweetimage

It is if you love this card more than 599.99, Jk. You have to see this card, its 50-50 all around and has perfect mint corners. I thought it was money well spint. I thought of it like a SGC 92 card but I dont buy SGC cards. Ill just measure it again when I get it back and just see if they were just being cautious with this high $ card which is completely understandable.
  • Let me get this straight: When you bought it, it was an 8. You cracked it open and resubmitted it and got an 8. You cracked it out and re-submitted again and got an 8. So the fourth time it was graded, it came back as evidence of trimming.

You have no proof that PSA graded the card before because you cracked it open, so the fact that it was graded an 8 three times before doesn't mean anything to PSA.

I know i have no proof but Im just saying it might not be trimed bc it was graded before. Im not using the fact that it was graded before to hold PSA to grading it, I just would like to know 100% if its trimed. If it is no big deal I still think its a great card and Ill take the loss if it is.

It was likely removed from its package at the Post Office, trimmed, and then repackaged to go to PSA. I'll give you ten bucks for it because I feel bad for your situation.

vargha , maybe the postal worker knew by the insurance stanp that it was a 65 rose , pulled the vg one that he had lying on the floor of his mailtruck, trimmed it , and replaced it. That's the only logical explanationimage

My guess is that there was a good deal at Staples on a 'trimmed' stamp this month. I'd wait for the ink to
dry out and resend it. Either that or email 'samsammy' and he'll help you out. I'd tell you to post
a sale offer on the Sgc boards, but Acowa will just tell you that board is dead. But if you
get it in a Sgc 92 holder I'll pay you more than a Psa 8 price. That is if it is 50/50 centering
    like you say.

Im glad this experience can become somehow comical. I dont even really care about the money I just wanted to have a real nice PSA 9 Pete Rose card in my collection. Well life does go on and Ill just put this behind me. Thanks for all the coments and yall all have a great weekend.

    handyman,

I'm sorry. I'm only kidding around. All the posts have been too tight around here. I didn't mean
to make light of the whole deal. I've bought a card off you before so I've dealt with you
before and know you would not make this up. Seriously, I would just wait a little bit and
resubmit the card. Hopefully, it will work out ok. Again, sorry for messing around.

It's obvious you want to keep the card so don't give up.

No problem, Did you buy the 1953 Dom Dimaggio Redman PSA 8 from me??
  • aconteaconte Posts: 2,053 ✭✭✭
Yes. Good memory and a sweet card too!

Yeah that was a really nice card, I had to put a reserve on that one. Did you make the set?
  • aconteaconte Posts: 2,053 ✭✭✭
I've been stuck at about 67%. I got about another 10-15% in Sgc holders. I passed on a couple
weak cards. It gets tempting to buy anything when these cards don't come around much.
I'm actually thinking of crossing over this set to Sgc just to match my other three. And I'm
eye balling another Psa set soon. We'll see.

<but Acowa will just tell you that board is dead>

Tony's right...it's dead! Honestly, the only time I go over there anymore is to witness a train wreck every now and then. It's a great board for the occasional knock down drag out fistfight between Mike Wentz and whatever challenger that he wants to spar with that given day.

Other than that it's like this:

    Thread One

    MW: PSA sucks because ...
MW Clone: You're right Mike ... PSA does suck.
MW alias: Not only that...but here's an example where they really suck.

    Thread Two

MW: Collectors Universe is losing money. PSA will probably go under any day now
MW Clone: I just don't know how much longer they can hold out Mike.
MW Alias: Besides that...PSA really sucks because ...

    Thread Three

MW: Dan Markel really sucks...(followed by some total fabrication)
Va Yank: Let's just talk about 1977 SGC graded cards. Cant we all get along?
MW: Mark Schoenen also sucks ... (followed by some total fabrication)
Dan Markel: MW that's a total lie and you know it.
MW: Is not ... and by the way ... you also suck because XYZ and here's a cute little jpg that I wasted hours creating on Photoshop.

    Thread Four

MW: SGC cards are really taking off in value.
MW Clone: Boy Mike you are dead on with that one.
MW: Before I forget...PSA sucks...they grade trimmed cards you know.
MW alias: Do you think this PSA card is trimmed Mike?
MW: I sure do and here's a two page explanation of why followed by other examples of PSA sucking.

If you visit the site a year from now...it will be the same 4 threads.

    Good luck with your Rose.

    Regards,

    Alan

  • Alan,

    That is just too funny!image

I did visit the sgc forum for a couple of months and that is just about all that was going on other than some charachter named phatty making some of the most useless and annoying posts that I have ever read on any board.

I can feel your pain as a Rose collector. I know some 8's are bee-yoo-tiful 8's, but resubmitting three times???

I guess it doesn't hurt to try again though.

Phatty was the best part of the SGC board. Once he stopped posting I stopped going over there.

Acowa, that last post made my day. image

    Alan,

I don't mind you having your fun. But if you're gonna quote me get it right. I did not say that
you did. Don't take out parts to get your point across. While the Sgc boards are not as
active as these boards they have had a little more activity than a year ago.

I misquoted Tony. I apologize. He's a great guy and a credit to the hobby. Hopefully, most people are aware that I was kidding. I feel the same way about Matthew Natale (Va. Yank). That being said, I lost respect for Mike Wentz after I saw first hand the unprofessional manner which he treated my friend, Albert Morales. He then made up a load of manure to explain it away. People like Tony & Matthew (who have been on the boards for several years) know that I was one of Mike's most vocal supporters here.

SGC has a good product and excellent service. IMHO you will realize that the SGC board(s) has arrived when the focus of the threads are much less on PSA.

    Alan,

A lot of these posts are cracking me up. I just watched Pulp Fiction and laughed alot. The
humor today has been great. I missed most of the fireworks this morning. Stinkin' work.

Vargha what did you do to get the toe after you? Heh?
I think he's counting your posts.

I could stir it up some more with one liners. But I'd hate to see the responses. That and wouldn't
want my sets to lose value....
