Actually pretty clean for a cc. Looks nice to me. I would not hesitate to purchase it for the right price. image

    Probably about 64.
  • Thanks everyone for your feedback! I'm still very new... This Morgan is at PCGS right now, but should be back any day. I'll let you know how they grade her...

  • My guess would be MS64, and a nice one at that.

Nice coin, did you break her out of a GSA slab?

Steve, Yes I did. Was that a bad thing to do? image

Shudda just left her in the GSA holder. By doing that, PCGS
would at least have noted "GSA" on the slab label...

Not a bad thing if you like having less value rather than more. image

  • I have 4 Morgan CC's in GSA holders that I have been considering submitting to NCG since I heard they leave them in the holders when they grade them.

  • Nice one, techeff! Beautiful crescent toning! She looks like a strong MS63 to me, but could go MS64. Welcome to the boards from a fairly new member. I wanted to compliment you because this is my favorite of all silver dollars. See mine at the link below.

BTW, the GSA designation would have been nice, but buyers typically pay little or no premium for this, since they are mainly interested in the coin.

  • Nice Morgan, techeff.
    I'd give her MS-63 obverse/64 reverse.
Probably should have cracked her out of the GSA slab but, hey
a year ago I would have done it , too. I'm still learning.

Hey cool.... as I watch all these people crack out these Gsa's..... the price of our's (still in the Gsa holder) just goes up even faster. And I'm not one that buys for investment either. But I can honestly say the Gsa's I've had through the years are some of the only coins I sold for more than I paid.

  • Those old GSA holders were ahead of their time. Real nice. Well made.
  • My sincerest apologies GSAGUY (and this is coming from a true Joe Dirt fan)… I meant no harm, but honestly I would have preferred this lady to have seen some “action” instead of being held prisoner for almost a century in a US Mint… With that being said, I would not of cracked her out knowing there was a premium… But then again, the coin has very little monetary value to me…

Wow. Congrats. I would have expected a 64.

That is a nice acquisition and not a shabby grade either. Don't find too many that nice still in GSA holders (except for GSAGUY, I suppose image ).

Those marks a really superficial and the coin looks to still have its original "skin". Did you cherrypick this coin or did you just get lucky?

Anyway, protect that baby with your life. Not many like that around, and if you should ever get an inkling to do something that would disturb this original, just find one of us oldheads to relinquish it to. image

Here's a little somewhat insignificant tip on evaluating the reverse of a Morgan: look at the detail of the eagle's right toe(s). When the detail is there, you MAY be onto to something.

Were it not for the minor superficial scrapes on the obverse, I wouldn't be surprised if this coin got a 67 - it sure looks to have the strike and luster.

  • Wow! Thanks Gilbert!

The coin was passed on to me by my father. That's all I know about it...

Thanks for the tip and if I start getting delusional about the coin I'll be sure to let you know.
