Has anybody heard of this?

I recently won 3 cards from a dealer in NJ. I paid through PayPal. 2 days later I won a card from a different dealer, also in NJ. The first dealer emailed me, stated to send the money to his PayPal and they would combine shipping. I responded that he was not the dealer that I won the card from and he replied that they were "Business Partners". Then the dealer who listed the auction e-mailed me and stated that the other dealer was telling the truth and I could PayPal him or send a check for the amount but the check would be for an extra $3.70 because of no combined shipping and mandatory insurance.

What would you do in this situation?

Every eBay auction is seperate. One buyer and one seller. This sounds TOO fishy to me. My advice is to only deal with the first seller, at the terms agreed upon between you two. I would also urge you to contact eBay and alert them to what happened. SAVE ALL EMAILS !!!

    Good luck...

  • Joe Del Grippo is a highly reputable vintage dealer that I have bought a lot of 1959 PSA graded cards from. His prices are very fair, service excellent and is a great gentleman. He was also set up at the National and is very visible in the hobby, unlike some people who just sell online. I would deal directly with Joe.

Hubcap is right on the money. Joe Del Grippo is as good as it gets--whatever he tells you I would do.

  • Thanks hubcap and Davalillo. All info seemed to check out but it just seemed kind of fishy at the time. I hope you are right and everything works out. The prices were very reasonable and I would like to add him to my list of auctions to check.

Have done big deals with both guys and they are as solid as it gets.

Just another positive remark for Joe DelGrippo, I've dealt with him also and it has been 1st class all the way.
  • Thanks to all for their comments about Joe DelGrippo. I trusted him and received all cards, his and his partners in 2 days. An excellent dealer.

Joe is tops! Bought some of the remains of the '68 set that he took this summer. Packing and Shipping were unrivaled, and he didn't quibble over nickles and dimes.
