Another Ebay scam??

I received this email in my hotmail account this morning from "ebay". This account isn't even associated with my ebay account...the subject line reads: We have been informed that your registration data we have on file my not be accurate.

Dear eBay Member,
It has been brought to our attention that the contact information
we have on file for you may be incorrect and may need to be updated.
Please take a moment to check your records by following the instructions included below.

---BEGIN INSTRUCTIONS---
* To update your eBay records click here:
http://cgi1.ebay.com/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?UPdate
* Complete all form fields marked with an asterics (*)
* Click on the 'Update my registration information' link.
---END INSTRUCTIONS---

We realize that your contact information may not be accurate due to an oversight
or privacy concerns; however, the ability to communicate between eBay members and
with eBay Support is a requirement of being an eBay member. Also, in our efforts
to combat Internet fraud, we must adhere to strict guidelines regarding a member's
registration information. This is for the safety of the entire eBay community.
Please note that this information must be changed or checked, within 24 hours.
Otherwise, eBay will have to suspend your registration until such time as the
updated information is received. If you are uncomfortable with the current eBay
policy requirement that all users provide and keep current contact information,
you may want to provide a valid voice mail phone number or work number in place
of your home telephone number. Both options are acceptable as contact information.
Contact numbers that are not acceptable are: fax machines, pager numbers, modems
or disconnected numbers.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this important matter.

Regards,
Customer Support (Trust and Safety Department).

  • CardFan,
    BOGUS, BOGUS, BOGUS.

There have been some threads on the baords about this. I get at least two or more of these a week. Please ignore all of these requests. eBay would never approach you in this manner.

It seems that they target eBay user that have their entire e-mail address as their user ID more (e.g. johnsmith@yourprovider.com). eBay has sent pop-ups to me warning of this danger and that I should change. This is a valid request.

Just delete and go, or if you want, notify eBay. They have so many of these, that they no longer even respond to my notifying them.
