Need Help....Ebay Question.

FairlanemanFairlaneman Posts: 10,426 ✭✭✭✭✭
A buyer just hit the Buy It Now on one of the auctions I have up. He Emailed and said he only wanted to bid on the item and wanted me to reverse the bid. Is this possible on a Buy It Now bid which ends the auction ? I'm stumped.

The only thing I can think of is sending him a Email and asking for the Auction Fees and then re-listing the item. First time for this to happen to me.

Hey lets say this was a coin just to stay on topic. image

If there is something that can go wrong it will.

    I don't buy slabs I make them
  • .30 cents insertion..FVF-? If FVF is less than $1.00, I wouldn't bother; otherwise, email him for the fees. his haphazard bidding shouldn't be at your expense...JMO...image

    He bought it.

    We ARE watching you.

  • You can report him as a non-paying buyer, which will get him a warning and maybe you get your fees back.

  • Yes you can go to the sellers help in the request refund page and tell ebay you both mutually agreed to void the sale, They will refund all fees ect. I have done this several times

  • Poor excuse (unless maybe he has 0 feedbacks and just started yesterday). He should pay or slap a negative on him. Of course he can leave one back too. What kind of an idiot does not understand what "Buy it now" means?!?!?
  • I think what fountainhead says is the best route for you to take here.
  • I have pert near 400 feedback and I've done it because of not paying attetion to what the hell I was doing and said OHHHHHHHHHHH F**K. Emailed the seller, offered to pay the initial insertion fees, FVF fees and reinsertion fees and all went well........image

  • Everybody makes mistakes sometimes. Just file with ebay that you both agreed to void the sale. No harm, no foul, and list the "coin" again.

Don't risk getting negative over this. Make sure you block him from bidding in your future auctions.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • No reverse.
    Request final sale credit.
    No free relisting.

    That is about MY luck!
  • fairlane...the same thing happened to me with a buyer. He said the exact same thing. He only wanted to bid, but hit the BIN button. The problem was the BIN was $750. I ended up selling to him at my reserve of $495 (since there was only 2 minutes to go and no other bidder was close to the reserve) If you don't mind, who was the bidder?

You might get a big fat retaliatory "negative" if you do that!image
  • In case you have never used BUY IT NOW yourself, what happens is you click the button, and then you are brought to a second screen which asks you to confirm the BUY IT NOW option. So he had time to think about his actions, and I think it's a crappy excuse to say you did it by accident. You'd have to be pretty thick to hit the BIN button TWICE. It's a binding contract- he owes you. eBay would agree, I am sure.

    Edited for grammar!
  • You can't force him to buy it (Ebay hype of it being a "legally
binding contract" is fine and dandy, but who is going to enforce
it.) Yes, he was dumb. Yes, you are stuck with more hassle.

At least we can feel your pain.

If you bid the amount of the BIN and NOT use the Buy it Now button it brings up a screen when you can either press a button to confirm your bid or press a button that acts like the the BIN button. If you hit the BIN buton at that point you do not get another chance to reconsider. I have done that in error myself before when I bid the BIN amount because I was willing to pay that much but no more, and I hoped I might still get it for less if the bidding didn't go that high. Then I pushed the wrong button and bought it instead of just confirming.
  • Well that I never knew- I guess because I have tried bidding on things that had BINs available, without using it, hoping to get it for less, and lost, so now when I really want something if it has a BIN I just go for it so I don't lose!
    Thanks for that tidbit, Conder.
  • Put yourself in the bidder's shoes....then ask the same question! Is it really worth getting yourself and him/her in a dither about it?

  • Ask him, the stupid buyer, what he thinks is fair? Let him do your bidding to correct this.
