Dealers in Dallas TX

I am heading up to Dallas this weekend for a great experience. For my birthday, my wife got me a race driving course that will let me drive an Indy race car at Texas Motor Speedway. Cool!

But I'll have some time to kill on Saturday morning. Can anyone recommend a couple good coin dealers? Heritage is huge and by appointment only so that's out. I have bet 2 good dealers at other Texas shows - Ed Hipps (amazing raw coins) and David Pike of Liberty Rare coins. Do these guys have retail shops? Any other ideas?

Yes, I've drooled over Adrian's coins at 2 shows - the Money Show in Houston and the Texas Numis. Assoc. show in May. In fact, I helped out at TBT's table at TNA and was right next to Adrian. Now that took discipline! At any rate, he is by appt only and I'm not looking to spend thousands this weekend image

Well, I suppose Oklahoma may claim it now after spanking the Texas Longhorns over 50 points in the football game last weekend... ouch. BUT I'll bet there is a lot more coin action in TX than OK.

Is it true New Jersey only exists because it's a good place to stop and take a leak when traveling between D.C. and N.Y ? image

You know us too well here in New Joisey! We are lucky though ... the only thing keeping Joisey from sliding into the ocean is that PA sucks! image

    Congrats on the wins.

The Spring Branch that I'm familiar with is just northwest of Houston. Is there one in the San Antonio area as well ?

Ed Hipps and David Pike both work out of their homes. You might want to give Ed a call. If he knows you maybe he'll let you come over. I think David keeps everything locked up between shows.

As far as coin shops there is Dallas Gold and Silver, Dallas Rare Coins and Jewelry, Alamo Coin and Lone Star Mint. I don't know what you collect so I wouldn't know what to recommend. If it was me I'd go to the Sate Fair, Dallas Zoo or go to Ft. Worth. The chances of getting anything good at these shops is small.

    Numish,
Thanks for the info. I'm working on certified gold type right now, so probably need at least a mid-range dealer. I've only got a couple of hours to kill before I'm driving 180MPH - hope I don't hit the wall image

The Numish is right.....going to the retail shops in Dallas is a waste of time unless you want to go look at some Heritage coins. Ed Hipps lives about 80 miles east of Dallas which is the opposite direction of the speedway. If you want to look at some nice gold type, you may want to give Douglas Winter a call. No shop....but he can show you his coins.

Dallas has some great non-retail dealers (Anaconda, Winter, Hipps, Bob Foster, Winn Carner, Jay-The Numish) but the retail shops with anything at all very nice are non-existant.....except for Heritage of course.

Heritage devotes about 2% of their space to retail sales; however, they've always treated me very politely and spent a decent amount of time with me when I have visited their offices. Including being very kid friendly to my son.

Take care and have fun at the speedway.
    Go well.

Thanks Mark. No sense burning time looking at stuff I won't buy. I can probably do just as well from Heritage's site - I have had good results in the past.

    Thanks for the advice all.
