Kellogg's Kut or Mis-Kut ??

I recently opened an unopened factory set of Kellogg's cards. I noticed in inspected with magnifier that some of the cards have an interesting Kut to them. It would seem that the paper underneath is actually a little longer than the polarizing laminate. Now were talking 1/64 of an inch or less but it can be detected or even noticable. Now I know that the Kards were klean because I had to seperate them after opening. How, if at all, does that effect the grade of the Kard ? Will they grade such a beast ?
Thanks,
Fuzz

    Hey Fuzz...

A lot of the K cards are cut that way. Just the way it is...PSA will certainly grade them, and when a few come back 10's....(give me a call....LOL)

  • Thanks King,
The info helps ease the mind. I'd hate to have paid high for a set to find that another percentage that won't grade besides the off center cut crowd. Have a stack of eight to ten that I sent in that had "cream of the crop" centering and clean corners.
Hope springs eternal. I'll keep you first in mind for all thos extra 10's that I end up with.

  • What year's card did you open? 1979's are known for their discoloration in the original box and for also being badly O/C. The 1979's also have other problems, but many year's cards also have the problem you cite, particularly 1977's.

Please also remember that while the King is a great guy, he is not the only other K collector worthy of PSA 10's!!!!!!

Thanks for sticking up for me. I do appreciate it. I knew someone would recognize my worthiness.

    Fuzz...

All members of the K Klub are worthy of the riches of a "10"...

You might just want to keep all those 3-D gems for yourself........If not...there are ample serious K collectors to seek out for a sale.......

(200 K sets on the registry is a pretty good place to be.....)

    Good luck!!

  • Sorry for the delay here. Didn't mean to cause a stink but that was a bit of a follow up on an earlier thread with the King and I.
The set was a 70FB as I have limited myself to only a few K sets in slabs at the time (both FB and a few 71 BB). About 1/3 of the set was o/c pretty badly. About 1/3 was "9-ish" for centering. The last third was cherry. The odd "top cut" was there on maybe a dozen cards or so and I have seen it on other K Kards but did not know what PSA would think of it. I could imagine a world where that might be called a mis-cut. I have been struggling to finish this set this month and am down to an Alworth. I have two in (one from this set) and am hoping for something nice back. I am expecting to list the set next week.
I have dozens of a raw K-sets and have collected them avidly since the early 80's. But I remain uncertain and/or unconvinced on the economics of slabbing the BB material. While there is a market, for them, and these would generally be just for my collection, it may make more sense just to buy them outright. I have seen 70 PSA 9's "on sale" on eBay as of late. Would hate to spend my money and good cards to shoot for 10's which are obviously difficult when a sure 9 can be bought already slabbed at less than the grading fee. Until I put more effort into understanding the market there, I will probably leave my sets raw.
As for the 10's, being a collector first, I could not imagine selling a 10. To hard to come by. I could imagine trading 10's as extras appear. All three of the responders here (Machodoc, Stump and the King) I would be willing to trade with as material is available and they all seem first rate. At this point< I have only one 10 "extra". It is a 70 FB Len Dawson. Growing up and being a Chiefs fan, it is one I don't mind keeping. I need the Alworth and I know the King has one (in 10 I believe) so I could toss in some beer money there to make that work out. I would otherwise be willing to trade it for equally weighted cards that I don't have as well.
Sorry for causing the little stink there.
