Set Registry Display Poll

Hi All,
With over 1,500 set composites listed, our web pages were becoming unwieldy. The drop down boxes may not be the best solution, although they certainly make for a cleaner page and it still only requires two clicks to get to a set. Some have requested a further breakdown of sets within each sport, example, break out team sets from the Key Card category. This does not address the long page issue. Some have suggested adding second pages, which would require an extra click. In the case of baseball sets, for example, it would require a total 3 clicks to get to a set composite and would probably still require scrolling. Some have suggested leaving the drop down boxes, but adding a link to a master set of sets that would appear in the old format.
The bottom line is that nothing is set in stone and we are perfectly happy to make changes, within the current structure of the Registry, to suit your needs. So let's survey it and see what you all want!
Be sure to visit the Registry first before casting your vote. Thank you.

but an extra page for team sets is also a good idea. But we should get rid of the box format.
Jery
Of course I could be wrong about that .
Your probley right about that !
Jeery
My preference is also not to use the drop down boxes. Seeing all
the sets listed on one page is easier than scrolling down with the
mouse.
Second comment: I posted on an opinion thread some time ago
and asked if it was possible when clicking on the
"View Member's Other Sets" tab within individual members'
collections to see some type of chronological order to them. Some
registry members have 30, 40, 50, or more sets registered and
and the way they are currently displayed looks disorganized.
Thanks.

Honestly I can't believe that the overall voting is so close because the new display stinks.
HANGING CHADS I TELL YA!
Props to BJ for asking us our thoughts!
Not that I'm biased or anything
I would also like to second augustaman's coment on the "View Member's Other Sets". I too would like to see some order to that page.

Thanks,
John
When I clicked on the baseball page I thought I was in the twilight zone!
Like the SGC registry

Always looking for 1957 Topps BB in PSA 9!
BJ,
It looks like there is a clear cut winner in the voting.I believe in the old addage that"If it's not broke, then don't fix it"but I think that with the explosion of the set registry makes necessity the mother of invention. It is only a matter of time until something has to be done and the last category seems to fit the best.I do like the origional format, however.I was going to add another cliche but I decided not to.

the tobacco sets to scroll down FOREVER to get to their
sets! it is a bit of a pain.... go back to the old way!
looks much nicer
but for baseball it's not.

For what it's worth, I have made decisions to collect cards based on sets that were easily visible in the old format. If I am searching the registry now, I will most likely skip over everything else and go to the set that I'm looking for.
I know that changes have been requested by members here in the past, but I don't think that this is what anyone had in mind. Will anyone ever view the "1947 Tip Top Bread" set again? I have viewed this set in the past, but if I have to scroll through a list, I will most likely skip over this one every time.
It's a shame that some wonderful "oddball" sets will be forced into obscurity. At a time when I was just getting into some of these sets, it will now take some effort on my part to find these sets buried within the drop downs.
JEB.
My vote is back to the old format. so much easier to navigate. Thanks for asking!!!!!
Or how about the ability to choose from the dropdown or listing after you login. I would still suggest the ability to create a 'favorites' section in there also. That way, club members can customize their profiles anyway they like...
Just brainstorming here...
My personal preference is a combination of the two -- one drop-down menu with an ability to go to a different submenu that continues the current format.
We'll run this poll over the weekend and unless the majority changes, will return to the old format early next week. Then sometime before the end of October, we'll add some of the enhancements you have suggested. I really like the idea of adding category links to the Set Registry home page and will discuss that option with our programmers.
In the meantime, I have created a new category for the team sets and am in the process pulling those sets from the Key Card category. I will update them in team order after they are all moved from Key Card.
And gee whiz, everyone has been so busy conversing about the new format that not one person has said yeah or nay about the split out of the non-sportscards! This is something that many people have asked for in recent months. Can I assume since there's been no chatter about it, it's OK with everyone?
As always, should you have any feedback, please let me know. Thanks.

According to my wife,I don't know that there is anything but sports(maybe hunting),so I guess that I wasn't aware that there were any cards other than sportscards

Both the coin and card registries are going great guns and I'm just getting ready to launch the new stamp registry before the end of the year, so I seldom have time these days to read the forums. I obviously am taking the time today because I'm monitoring this poll.
It is always best to email me directly with any ideas or suggestions. I keep a file on good suggestions, although some we simply cannot implement now due to the current parameters of set registry programming. But I keep the file for the day we revamp the Registry. So send any good idea you may have my way! If it's a little change, I can sometimes get it pushed through quickly. If it requires some major programming, it may take many months. Our IS department keeps a very strict schedule because they provide programming for the entire Collectors Universe group of companies and must prioritize their work. So from my vantage point, everything I send to them is high priority, but they are also getting requests from other divisions that actually may be more important to the success of CUI. Can you believe that!
Bottom line... send ideas my way and if they make sense, they may eventually come to fruition.

BJ,
As someone who asked for a seperate "non-sports" catagory about a year ago, I am glad to see it. I would , however, prefer to see the catagory renamed to "Non-Sports" rather than just "Misc". I think us non-sport collectors deserve a proper name.
