1921 Morgans a tough sell

I am not offering any for sale right now, but I have noticed in recently ended eBay auctions that 1921 Morgans (certified and raw) to be a tough sell right now (at any price).

Anybody else notice this?

  • num, Are 21s a generally WEAK strike in the first place?
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • As a buyer of Morgans I notice there are a lot of 21s in assorted grades. Though
    I already have more than enough 1921s I always buy 21S or 21D and I like MS61
to 65. It's a Morgan and I love em'. image

  • I find that 21 is a good year for strikes.

Since they had to design the dies from scratch, the look is not quite the same (and not quite as pretty) as the 1904 (or earlier) Morgans.

The other thing that hurts the sale of 21 Morgans is the quantity available.

I have over 50 different date/MM Morgans in my collection. I have not bothered to buy a 21 or 21S because there is no doubt in my mind that I will obtain these as part of a lot sometime in the future.

  • ElectricEye - Awesome strike and toning on that 21 Morgan ! One small hit away (cheek) from being a super gem! The 21 is tough for ultra high grades.

I listed a raw one and it's already up to $1.50 with 2 more days to go

If I find a nice eye appealing one, I'll buy it. I regret selling a 1921-D earlier this year, too.
  • I've been concentrating on just 1921 morgan's lately, trying to get a 67. I have a couple right now that are really high grade 1921's and dmpl 1921's that I am about to send to pcgs. And by the way super nice morgan electric, it would be a lock 66 except for that scratch on the cheek, PCGS will give it a 64.

I've got a nicely toned 21-P and I'm searching for the other mintmarks nicely toned as well. Toned 1921 Morgans are hard to find.

  • thanks jeff and rd ~ it is in a PCGS 64 holder now ~ the hit isn't quite as noticeable in person image
  • I've got a 21D & S on the way from Jared for my circulated date set. They're F/VF grades. Kind of a tough grade to find nice examples in since so many are MS. Unfortunately, the 21's are my least favorite strike by far but I need to fill the holes in my album.

I'm not surprised that these are tough to sell. There's a huge supply and not the most attractive date, IMO.

The hit isn't very noticable until you see it. Very nice coin. ON 1st glance I didn't see it then image Ouch!!
