i broke 1 when it came out- didn't get anything of great note- got a few cards i sold on ebay for decent money (2 autos, bibby #d, 1-2 other #d), but sp gued is one of the riskier (i.e., hit and miss) boxes it seems- even w/their guaranteed gu/auto/pack. if i were you/had limited $, i'd buy something like authentix- you can get a box of that on ebay for $35- far cheaper than a card shop- and you're guaranteed 2-3 memorabilia cards/box...the 2 boxes i broke were great- 1 had the bosh auto which is going for more than i paid for the box another box you might consider is SPX- i've had a bit more luck w/that than w/sp gu'ed.

in terms of collecting, think of your goals- i.e., i collect just a handful (maybe 2 handfuls lol) of players- guys i've followed for years in baseball and basketball...i have rcs, graded, autos, gu'ed, and #d of those players. examples include maddux, palmeiro, prior, blalock, mcgwire, jordan, etc. part of my 'collecting' is also breaking boxes- partly for 'fun'- and partly for 'hope'- i.e., i hope to get a card that pays for the box/will sell well on ebay/let me use the profit to buy an auto of a player i like. basically i don't buy any card or any box i wouldn't mind getting stuck w/.

You have what now, like 100 bucks in paypal? Go on Ebay and buy a NICE card of your favorite player...You wont get what you want in a box...Just my opinion

don't know- i threw out all the wrappers. however you do get 3 memorabilia (gu or auto) cards in each box and i think rcs are 1:12 (so 2/box). i only got 1 auto out of 2 boxes and from the people who broke boxes here, i haven't seen many get autos- though i think epaq got an auto. some boxes for you to consider:

authentix= 39.99

authentix boxes are going for something like 80-90 at my local shops

btw, i find boxes are much cheaper if you go to ebay's main page, look under stores (left side), type in the name of the box. for some reason, they pull up cheaper boxes than just doing a regular search

another box to consider is fleer focus- you can also get that for 35/box and i believe you're guaranteed 2-3 gu/autos/box

p.s. if they were hobby theyd have the fleer hobby exclusive logo in shrink wrap all over the box...

I wouldn't go for the Authentix box that Rainman listed; it looks like retail, if only because Fleer hobby boxes usually have a shrink wrap with lots of "Hobby Exclusive" in big red letters and the Fleer crown logo all over the place (in same red). Focus basketball is one GU per box (I think), but all GU are limited to 250 or less, plus there's lots of other low-numbered cards in Focus boxes as well. Odds for AU in practically every Fleer basketball product out right now is 1:120 packs. Hope this helps

BTW I would NOT buy 02-03 SPA boxes; however, there's a lot of the autographed cards on Ebay that generally go pretty cheap

sorry thought that authentix box was hobby- didn't look at it that closely...u can find hobby boxes by doing a search on ebay.

What would I recommend? I'd say try and get a box of 03-04 SPX on presell, but if price is an issue a hobby box of focus might not be a bad bet.

I think you should buy singles if you're looking for a certain player(s) or for fun, buy a good box. It would be easier to start a post like "I have $(such and such amount of money) - what box should I get?" It would be easier for people to help you get a good box for a price that's in your range. I have done well with 2002-03 HHP(5 GU or 4 GU/1 AU) and 2002-03 Xpectations(1 AU/4 GU). Personally, if looking to get an auto, I'd go with Topps or SPx over Fleer products.
