New scam ID'd on ebay from BOTN

BOTN posted on the Network 54 forum:Link

Here is his message:

<< <i>It has come to my attention that an ebay power seller has absconded with my entire web page inventory, images and all and is attempted to sell the cards to unsuspecting people. His ebay id is tonissportscards and he is out of Tacoma, Washington. His webpage address, which has an uncanny resemblance to mine, is http://www.tonis-sportcards.com. Just for kicks I did a Whois search and came up with the following: http://www.botn.com/tonis.doc His e-mail address is t0ni_toscana@gawab.com.

Once again, the cards that he is trying to sell he does not own and they are all still in my possession. Please pass along this information so that nobody gets screwed by this scumbag. I have contacted ebay as he is attempted to sell cards through their e-mail system. I will also follow up with his web host. I will crush this twerp.

If any of you is able to post this warning on the CU Forum I would greatly appreciate it. I will make sure that this gets to the SGC site as well.

Thanks,
Greg >>

I got this email this morning and called Greg with the info. The site say the seller is in Pisa, Italy, and all the prices are in Euros. The Ebay id he says is his came from Tacoma/Seattle. It is possible he hijacked the ebay id as well, as the seller doesn't have anything remotely like these cards listed in his auctions. Either way, the cert numbers I checked were the same ones that Greg has, and I've seen those cards in person at Greg's house. Buyer beware!

  • I got the e-mail yesterday. I replied asking for the exchange rate, but have received no response. Hope this guy gets everything he has coming to him.

I've said this on these boards before, and I'll say it again.
I'm sick & tired of scum stealing images and representing it as their items. This is fraud pure & simple.
The only punishment divied out is a suspended eBay account, if the eBay brass does anything at all.
If anyone puts ads in a paper selling items and doesn't deliver criminal charges eventually will happen.
A local guy here stiffed some customers at his used car shop, he got fined and will do jail time, it would be
nice for the same penalty to eBay fraud...jay

jay this guy is worse. he stole a whole web site and represented it as his own. I got the email this morning and was suspicious. It looks like he stole the id also which was changed yesterday to his. thanks greg, I hope noone fell into this, the 1st thing i saw was italy and said the hell with this. no way someone from italy has this stuff but he is somewhat smarter than most scammers by copying a real website and I am sure some people got caught.

I emailed the ebay id and asked him if he was one and the same, he replied he was. Don't know why he would try and hijack someones cards other than a scam, but he's not the first seller to do it this month.

griffins, I think when they steal the ebay id, they change the email so that it goes directly to them to do exactly what he did to you. help confirm his story and create trust. I already sent an email to ebay to get him suspended so that the owner can get his id back. the id was changed yesterday

    And this tonite from Ebay
    <<Hello,

Recently, it was reported to eBay that you may have received an email
from "t0ni_toscana@gawab.com" soliciting you to buy a card collection.
Please note this email was sent to you from a fraudulent individual that
was able to gain access to a high-profile eBay account. Please do not
send any to this person. We have since been able to restore the account
    to the rightful owner. >>>>

Packcollector, you were bang on- never realized you could hijack the entire account.

MF - I agree, BUT at least they were prosecuted, and now have a criminal record. The eBay fraud scenerio is hit and run. If you get caught, they cancel your account. And within 5 minutes you can be back in business. I wish all these eBay fraud people have to face serious consequences like jail time, restitution and big $ for attorneys fees...jay
  • I have a situation that is not quite the same. There is a dealer that is advertising cards for sell in SCD that I own and some are listed on my web site. In Fort Washington, he looked at some of my cards and then emailed a list of cards for sell to his customers. He also put an ad in SCD. I have been told that when someone inquires about some of the cards that he has for sell, he has stories about just getting back from a show and he will have to check to see if he still has them.
